The rating doesn't seem unusual to me. I like it a lot but I rate it the "good" tier with other origin stories while not scratching the great tier that includes the really awesome stuff like GotG and the Winter Soldier.

And that's where he has it. the way I see it, he's just put it at the top of the Good tier.

Am I really that much in the minority in terms of liking GotG 2 as much as the first? I thought the start was weaker and a lot of the middle (until the arrow scene) but the climax was definitely better to me, and there was a villain who wasn't completely vanilla as well.

I'm in the minority with you. I was so surprised to see it ranked so low on a collective Top 50 (Top 100?) superheroes movie list earlier this year. I thought for sure it'd be much higher.

And I don't think any of the shown comments made any mention of Yondu who was the best part of the movie so screw those rankers.

Doctor Strange is just okay for me. I didn't hate it, but I was kinda expecting more from it. (I think I already said this in this topic...)

In that vein, I was also underwhelmed by Guardians 1 and more into Guardians 2. I don't like how 2 basically ignores every character that is not Peter, but that's really my only problem with it. It's not so much Guardians 2 as Star-Lord 1.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2

Ok, going in with low expectations so I should enjoy this more the second time.

First scene is solid, gets you ready to learn about Starlord's family.

First scene with Guardians is actually really good in terms of banter. Baby Groot dancing around while they fight the big thing is cute, but kinda silly. Funnier in terms of how all the rest of the cast reacts to him being around the fight. I don't think any song choice can be as good as Come and Get Your Love from the first movie though.

Do more people like Awesome Mix 1 or 2?

The Sovereign leader really honed in on Quill's father, there. It's almost like

"Hand me some of that yarna root." "It's not ripe yet. And I hate you."

You have to go through that QUANTUM asteroid field. There are some really good moments in the film - like Rocket losing Groot, Quill catching him, tossing him back to Drax without looking, then him handing Groot to Gamora. The way they treat Groot is cute as hell.

And there are some bad moments - the root not being ripe is already making me hate myself, even at the second mention of it.

That said, to this point, Gamora has been one of the funniest characters and they really gave her no time on the trailers. I remember that fiasco.

Hey look! It's Kurt Russell!

And now it's Sylvester Stallone! And the ice guy he's with, who I remember is somebody important but I don't remember who that actor is.

Sad snowy planet to rub in Yondu's fall from grace. Sovereign showing up here with the carpet getting caught is cringe humor. The little parts of this movie that make it worse for me.

Mantis is annoying at first. And at second.

I really like that they give Rocket a chance to jones all over some guys, and I really like that the stupid not-ripe joke is over.

"I wanted to experience what it truly meant to be human" YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT A HUMAN IS, WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT THAT MAKES NO SENSE

"We got a couple boxes of hands if that one don't work out"

"No! It's too adorable to kill! Take it to the tailor!" Stuff like this is super cute, but it definitely makes for a weird tone during the film.

Awwwwww yeah I forgot that Yondu and Rocket connected so much this movie. Them + Groot sneaking through the Captain's chambers is the best thing.

Sean Gunn's character is also amazing in this film. So much emotion.

Gamora is so great. Showing a slight bit of emotion when Quill yells at her. So subtle, so good. Also, Nebula finally admitting her gripes with Gamora.

Random Stan Lee appearance with some Watchers.

Drax pointing out that they aren't friends, but family is really on the nose and probably unneeded. But saying "nobody gets left behind... except maybe you" to Nebula is top notch.

Ego coming out with his villainry in the reveal is actually pretty good, especially the part where he turns Quill against him and he blasts the heck out of Ego's body.

Also, underrated moment - when Quill says "we gotta kill Ego. Rocket!" and Rocket is completely in sync and follows along just fine. Good ol' team dynamic working out.

Gamora, Drax, and Mantis landed very well for falling like 100 feet.

"Does anybody have any tape?"

"You look like Mary Poppins!" "Is he cool?" "... Hell yeah."

This big blue goop is really dangerous. You would think people would take the opportunity to run, and not look at it closely. Still, a lot of people are dying here.

"You shouldn't have killed my mom and squished my Walkman!" Quill proceeds to go all Super Skrull on his ass.

Oh and the pac-man -_-

to be cont.

I guess the first movie ended with Drax finding his new family after Ronan killed his last. Rocket never had a family aside from Groot, and same with Groot, but Groot made sure that Rocket understood that they were the new family. Only Gamora and Quill had any hangups, and both got resolved in this film.

Rocket making the hard decision to leave Quill and Yondu for the sake of the team is huge, and I love that he stunned Gamora to do it.

Yondu :'(

Gamora hugging Nebula :'(

Quill handing the arrow to Kraglin after he gave him the Zune :'(

Kraglin yelling when the other Ravagers show up for the funeral :'(

Rocket crying one solitary tear :'(

Surrender as the song during the start of credits :'(

Kraglin hitting Drax with the arrow xD

COSMO THE SPACE PUP

Also ADAM WARLOCK

and JEFF GOLDBLUM

TEENAGE GROOT

and extra Stan Lee appearance

Other point of note since I didn't make it earlier - Howard the Duck makes an appearance early on with a date, and that date is Molly C. Quinn, whom I have met. I flirted with her briefly, but it was a little weird because her parents were nearby.

Alright, so...

The film was much better on rewatch. I think that's because the things that really bothered me - I was prepared for. Let's hit a quick note of those things:

- Cringe humor. While there was some great humor in the film, some of it was just obnoxious. Like the stupid "it's not ripe" thing.
- Mantis. She was annoying most of the time.

Considering those two took a lot out of the movie for me, they added up to be most of it. Quill was better in vol. 1, but eh, not that big of a deal.

Now, upon seeing it again, let's look at the good things:

- Really good emotional beats, especially concerning Yondu.
- The family dynamic was more clearly defined, especially with Groot acting as the child.
- I think the first time through, I didn't let myself think "Ego has to be the villain", and therefore waiting half the movie for them to get to the actual conflict was annoying. However, in retrospect, Ego isn't waiting half the movie to reveal his conflict - the conflict all along was forces threatening to split to the GotG apart. Rocket being a dick at the beginning, Quill finding his real father, etc... With all the James Gunn stuff in the news, it really strikes me that finding family in the dysfunction of your life is the key theme in these movies, and it's done very well.
- TASERFACE

It's kinda lame that Kraglin isn't on the posted for the movie.

I'll need a bit of time to think on the placement for the film, but I DID like it a lot more than I originally did. Will leave off with this:

Gamora > Drax > Rocket > Groot > Starlord > Yondu > Mantis

Gamora and Drax shined this movie, while Quill suffered a lot. I think baby Groot was in general a little worse in this movie than originally, as well.

AND WHERE'S MY COSMO

I agree with most of your points. None of the cringe humour hit the mark for me, and neither did Groot. It felt like it was cute for the sake of being cute (and selling stuff). I did, however, like him on the Captain's ship. Drax is great, Mantis is great, most of their interactions together were not. The arrow and ship scene is still one I love, there's something about it that's just so, so satisfying. Glad you enjoyed it more the second time around.

The GotG soundtracks are right up the alley of my buddy and I in terms of our favourite genres of music to listen to.

I remember sometime before the second movie came out, we were talking about songs that would fit well in future GotG movies, and I mentioned Mr. Blue Sky as a good fit as I had been listening to it a lot at that moment in time. I was ecstatic during that opening sequence. Easily my favourite part of the movie, mostly because of that previous conversation.

One of the other songs I mentioned as a good fit for ending credits was Dancing in the Moonlight, which ended up being the ending credits for each episode of the GotG Telltale game.

Spider-Man: Homecoming was the first Spiderman movie I ever saw, so the lack of Spiderlore actually did confuse me at some points. But I did love it a lot!

Also, if DC followed the Marvel model, what movies would they have made at this point you think?

Batman

Batman 2
Wonder Woman
Superman
Justice League
Batman 3
Wonder Woman 2
Superman 2
Suicide Squad
Justice League 2
Aquaman
Superman 3
Martian Manhunter
Suicide Squad 2
The Flash
Wonder Woman 3
Cyborg
Justice League 3
Aquaman 2

I'd take Black Canary for Black Widow, Arrow for Hawkeye, Starfire for Scarlet Witch, Robin for War Machine, but that's about all I can think of.

Spoder-Boy

After the events of Civil War, Tony Stark's best friend had betrayed him for his ex. His black best friend was a cripple. His other black friend harbored his now-ex best friend and others. His ex-secretary also flopped sides.

This leaves Tony with Vision as his only bro. Hmm. Not really the party guy Tony likes.

So Tony decides to give meaning to his life by playing pops to an orphan living with his hot aunt. Let's see how this plays out, in:

Iron-Man 4: Spoder-Boy

I really like that they start out in Avengers world. And that the bad guy HAS a team. Like, this is typical, but like everyone I appreciate the blue collar background of this guy. It's a good motivation, he's an understandable businessman with a bit of an anger issue. Also CAN YOU HEAR ME KNOCKING

The Marvel Studios intro is to the Spider-Man theme song ugh yes <3

Happy getting so annoyed with Peter is the best. I love seeing the Civil War fight from the perspective of a kid who doesn't realize how big a deal it all is. Also, Tony is wearing a shirt with a cat on it, underneath his jacket. Best.

Peter quit marching band. Do they tell us what instrument he played?

I love that everyone talks about Peter's aunt like it's no big deal. And that there's a cat at his usual sandwich shop. Hell yes cat.

Friendly neighborhood Spider-Man literally just hanging out and giving old women directions.

Stan Lee "Don't make me come down there you punk" eh.

And the first actual Spidey vs. bank robbers scene... is just beautiful, pure Spidey. They nailed that one scene better than possible, and that solely endeared me to Tom Hardy as Spider-Man. Even more than his appearance in Civil War.

Ned hinting that he'll be jerking it to Aunt May xD

"Thank you Captain. I'm pretty sure this guy is a war criminal now, but the state says we have to show this"

MCU MJ is weird. Also, everyone congratulating Ned on his hat is top-tier. "That's not Spider-Man, that's just Ned in a red shirt."

It's Dong lover! And awwwww yeah Shocker fist.

Aaaaand bye bye Shocker. Poor Vulture... accidentally became a murderer. He's over the edge now :\

Liz is so into Peter and he's too dumb to realize it. Also, cameo appearance by Ultron robot head.

Midtown winning the championship was kinda anti-climactic. Flash is such a dick though.

These random gun guys saying they're gonna shoot Spidey are just pointlessly in the way.

So here's a question - Karen has a personality. She said Peter's impersonations are funny. Is she just a smart robot, or did Tony

MAC GARGAN, along with Vulture and Shocker. This movie sure is sinister.

"The other guy was way better with that thing. Honestly, I'm shocked!"

This Vulture design was made for 3D. This whole boat falling in half is just like the scene from old Spider-Man 2 with the train, except slightly better at first. And then with an Iron Man. But still, what did Peter play in band?

"I just wanted to be like you." "I wanted you to be better" dawwwwwww

Peter asking out Liz is the cutest moment. But ughhhh May don't have him tie a single Windsor, make that shit a double.

And then the exciting part of the movie... Peter shows up to Liz's house... and BAM! Vulture. Ugh love it.

Ugh the car ride to the dance. Liz just giving away everything.

Peter really should have just told Vulture he didn't Spider-Man anymore, then they could've been friends. Instead he had to blow off his date and play the hero. What a nerd.

Peter stealing Flash's car and not knowing how to drive is top-tier. I also kinda like that Ned is useful.

"Prototype for Cap's new shield". Literally Tony still making things for his bro.

Peter caught his breath really fast after being crushed by a bunch of rocks. This whole realizing he's a buff boy and lifting the rocks off of him wasn't as cool a moment as they made it out to be.

Peter really hung on to the underside of that invisible plane for a long time. He's really sticky. Him steering the plane from on top of it is one of the coolest moments.

Also, because I skipped it: "There's a dance going on. What are you doing up here?" "I'm... looking... at... porn."

Why did Vulture take off his helmet while beating the crap out of Peter? Probably good to keep that on if you're going to be flying more.

I know that fight was short-lived, and Peter only won due to Vulture's hubris. But it was nice to see him pull the guy from the fire.

Get some sense Peter, Liz is going through a lot, she doesn't have time for your shit. And spoilers! Michelle was MJ all along!

Why did they bother remodeling the upstate Avengers facility? Are there any Avengers left? It's like... just Vision.

"That was a test right? There's nobody back there." "Yes! You passed!" HEY IT'S PEPPER awwwww they're back together.

"You kidding? I've had this thing in my pocket since 2008!" xD literally since the first movie yes

And then May catches Peter. "WHAT THE F-"

Ahhhhh beautiful ending.

What a damn good movie. Excellent soundtrack. Love the credits style.

Post-credits scene! Mac Garrrrrrrgan yeeees

So I'm a huge Spidey fan. He's my favorite. I've always been keyed in on him since the early cartoon days when I was a child. One of my favorite days was when I was at Universal Islands of Adventure and rode the Spider-Man ride 8 times in a row. Nothing beats Spidey. Best cast of villains (Batman is the only one who competes there). Best personality.

And this movie just nailed it in terms of finding a good Peter and a good Spidey. That was always the issue with Macguire and then Garfield. Good Peter, good Spidey, but neither was both.

Funnily enough, GFAQS is advertising the Spider-Man game for the PS4, directly to the right -> of this text box. They knew!

I love the modern, fresh take on Spidey. I love his wit. I love almost everything they did with him. SJW MJ is a hot take on the character, so we'll see where that goes. Incorporating Ned, doing him as the Miles Morales sidekick version was pretty solid. Vulture was absolutely amazeballs and I'm excited to see Shocker return in every single movie because people just don't care enough about him to lock him down.

Second post-credits scene - OH YES CAPTAIN AMERICA PSA LITERALLY TROLLING ALL OF US MOVIE-GOERS YESSSS

The humor was top-notch. They really nailed Spidey in combat, which is such an important part of the character and didn't disappoint in any way. Peter himself has room to grow. Karen is ok. Is she an illegal AI? I want to know these things.

I don't think I'll ever be truly happy unless Spidey meets Coulson. I know that won't happen, but Coulson is such a fanboy for heroes... Peter would be such a fanboy for Coulson. It'd be the best reversal.

Spider-Man: Homecoming just makes me happy. Out of all of the Marvel movies, this one just makes me feel like a kid again. And it gives Tony Stark some good development again... keeps his character alive. And Happy!

I love that Happy literally was reading everything Peter sent to him. Making little comments about "the notes you leave around" showed that he really did care. And same for Tony - they cared the whole time.

Liz was cool I guess. A good way for them to leave MJ development until later. Personally though, I wouldn't mind if they went Ultimate-esque and made a Peter/MJ/Gwen love triangle. Obviously with Gwen as Ghost Spider.

I'm just really excited for where this series is going.

To conclude, this movie did just about everything right. They skipped over the origin story that we didn't need to see, but provided a fresh take on Peter starting out as a hero. He didn't even win the climactic fight through fighting! They cast him extraordinarily well. They gave him a good attachment to the actual Avengers, without making him instantly part of the team or just not. Spidey in combat was top tier, so he doesn't have to grow into that phase, which is so needed, I mean come on, that's the main reason to watch Spider-Man anyway.

Vulture was a good pick for the villain - focus on all the guys we didn't get to see in the Raimi movies. Give us Gargan again. Give us the Rhino. Give me some CARNAGE. And of course, the more modern characters would be great to include... Gwen's reboots have been well-received. I'd love for her to make an appearance in the MCU... even as one of Peter's classmates who oops is actually Gwenpool or something. Spider version would be interesting, but too similar to Spider-Man that it would be odd. Maybe make her an accidental creation of Peter's... but I digress, I'm digging too deep into what-ifs.

Anyway, I love this movie and I'm glad Marvel and Sony could work out a deal.

Ugh. So Logan Paul went to university with me, a couple of years after I started because he's a baby of course. He dropped out because he thought he was funny and little kids like him.

Just think, if I would've become a Vine star instead of him, I could be dating Chloe Bennet right now.

The world is not fair.

Koenigs!

Sam talking to Daisy about erotic fanfiction between her and Black Widow... where can I find this >_> Actually no I don't like that pairing that much.

Hahaha there are so many Koenigs. There's a sister Koenig!

Holy shit AIIDA punched through someone's stomach.

Ha, this guy actually thinks that Coulson is the cause of all problems on the planet. What if he's right?

xD

YES TASER GUY WAS AN INHUMAN

hahahahahahahaha I love the trope where the person becomes what they hate the most

AIDA's influence has an inoperable brain tumor. It's really sad... it's clear all Radcliffe wants to do is save her... even going so far as to figure out all the brain mapping stuff and creating a new body for her. But he knows that the replicants aren't the real thing... and so he moves on to the Darkhold... trying to find a real way to save her. It's so sad...

Also holy shit this Inhuman guy is OP.

Director Mace needs to stop making football references.

Ugh and real AIDA wants to actually take Radcliffe's help.

And noooo Mace is going to sacrifice himself :( but little does he know that's exactly what the enemies want.

Some shows thrive on being taken bit by bit... like Lost. This one works a lot better when you binge it.

Every time Mace has a lackey, the lackey dies. Then a new redshirt fills in that hole.

One Koenig literally even called them redshirts.

omg young Coulson and YOUNG May. She's adorable. So smiley.

Man, poor Mace. Guy is going through the ringer. And still being badass through it. What a good fella.

Daisy doesn't really need to fight this guy hand-to-hand. She could just keep blasting him into the wall.

Awwwwww May and Coulson were going to start dating but she was dating her ex-husband at the time.

But how did they replace literally all four of Coulson, Mack, Daisy, and Mace? Mace is easy... don't get the other three.

I love how everyone I've ever talked to about the show turned around on Mace and loved him by this point of the season even if they hated him to start.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who absolutely hated the "not-ripe" thing. That wasn't just a joke that fell flat, that was the deathblow to the kind of humor that I was already super tired of already.

I think that was a case of good writing. We were supposed to feel uneasy about him, and annoyed by him. But as the truth comes out, and he still wants to do good, you can't help but admire the guy.

I think that joke almost single-handedly set me up to not like the rest of the movie the first time I saw it.
