Best comic book villain? (Including graphic novels)

The singularly greatest villain in the history of comic books (and it's not even close), is the Shade. Anyone who has read Starman will likely rank the Shade as a top-tier villain, but for me, there's nothing better than a villain that has absolutely no reason to be a villain and yet continues to do it. The Shade is about as heroic as a villain can get without actually being a hero, and that's why I love to read and dissect the character. His career as a criminal exists primarily to alleviate his boredom and keep his skills honed. When he's not on the job as a super-villain, however, he putters around his rose garden and keeps a journal. He's beloved in Opal City and vilified everywhere else.

You also have a lot of great adventures from his time as a more neutral observer of the world, such as the Ludlow family feud, his short career as an employee of Howard Hughes, his work as British resistance leader... there's just a lot of variety spread across the Shade's career.

Add in his trademark superbly acerbic wit, and you have a really enjoyable character, totally unique from most of the ilk and rabble that claims to be a villain.

The only answer to this is going to be Mephisto for a long time.

After Thanos, who can you build up as the next big antagonist? Galactus is fun for two movies, sure, but there's also fun to be had with Galactus as a good guy and a comedy character. The X-Men can be integrated if you really want a longterm status quo change for Chapter Two of the MCU. But where Thanos affects the entire MCU on its exterior, Mephisto worms his way into the interior of each Marvel hero. He can corrupt and lead astray. And imagine what Marvel's special effects departments can do with Hell, a malleable place of utter despair, customized for each character's ultimate soul-crushing destruction. I'd start building Mephisto now, and give him a long run as the primary villain for a while.

I would say just "Great" right now. I'm really digging Man of Steel. I think that most people who bitched and griped and complained about how Bendis would "Bendis-ize" Superman should be eating their words. This feels like a very invigorated writer who has finally found an outlet to tell a host of stories in a different way which he had no access to before now.

I've never seen someone define fun as posting a line of a song lyric with the expectation of other unknown, faceless individuals responding with a corresponding song lyric as if they couldn't just Google that. It's essentially watching two computers provide each basic inputs and outputs.

Artist is probably going to always go to Nicola Scott. Super-underrated. Writing-wise, I know she gets a lot of hate, but no woman has ever topped Gail Simone on titles like Secret Six or Welcome to Tranquility.

Final Fantasy XII has a world full of history and lore, and combined with Balthier, Ashe, Fran and Basch, I think you have characters that have been well-defined as personalities but given a lot of latitude with potential plot direction that you could have some real fun. The political and military aspects of FF12 certainly are open to a lot of exploration as well. I think you could make a Game of Thrones without making Game of Thrones, and that's where the money is at right now.

Gails main problem is that she personally has the charisma of a pound of rotten meat and enjoys being confrontational (on matters petty and grand) but yeah I have always enjoyed her work and in the wake of just how bad Marguerite Bennetts Batwoman and Sheena were and how good Plastic Man is, I think I might have to give it to Gail too.

Art, i still really like Babs Tarr but thats probably just because Scotts art was most recently paired with Greg Ruckas horrid Wonder Woman run.

I don't think I've ever really had a hard time separating the artist from the content of their comic (in terms of writing), but I do inextricably link brutal death with Phil Jimenez since he drew BLAM!, which was the first single issue I ever bought in a comic shop.

Tough question. I'm going to go with Arrow. I hate to do this because Stephen Amell is truly one of the best actors in the superhero business, and he has a genuine passion for his role, but Arrow has become ungodly awful. It needs to make way for, well, anything else. Constantine solo series return.

I don't want to ever see LOST return. I think they whiffed the ending, but there's no way they would ever be able to pick up and make it right. Emotionally, they landed it. But plot-wise, there's no resuscitation.
