I'm pretty late to this one but all I have to say is that it was absolutely beautiful

As a hispanic person I appreciated the level of detail they brought to the people, their mannerisms, and the culture

and it was astonishing seeing it come from PIXAR of all people.

It was made with so much love and care

My father played the guitar and he used to be in a band. He sang to all of his children and thats the part that got to me, the flashback song "remember me" with coco

it absolutely brought me to tears

it definitely deserved the oscars it won

I mean, Pixar always made good movies movie-wise (in terms of animation, cinematography, writing; always high quality).

But they used to fall into the Smurfs trap. (Behold the ensemble cast of 6 guys, and one token female love interest, with all-white voice actors).

They really started changing things up recently though. (First movie I really noticed them breaking from their formula was Brave, so...2012).

I just saw it too. Pretty close to perfect, and the attention to detail is outstanding.

My only complaint was the very end. It was far too saccharine for me. I think it would have been better if Hector remained obscure to the world. It would have been enough for just the family to know the truth.

I agree with this to an extent. For just Hector and the family's stories, it would have been fine, but the whole idea was that being forgotten is worse than death, so in order to conclude de la Cruz's story we needed to know that he would be forgotten.

while it didn't subtract points for me, yea, hector receiving retroactive recognition and Ernesto being exposed in the land of the living came out of no where, I didn't even consider that would happen in the wildest outcomes. Ernesto is too big to be forgotten, so there was little point for that to happen, and Hector just didn't want to be forgotten, which does NOT automatically mean he wanted to be famous, so it was a tad bit overkill to have that happen.

He was bummed he wasn't famous but that was far from his goal. And at worst, Ernesto will be remembered as being a murderer who got famous by being a cheat, but still remembered

but eh, its fine.
