I'm still thinking he lands in the NBA somewhere late in free agency. Some team out there may want to take a flyer on him, and if he comes back from the hip surgery in good shape, they'll have themselves an all star scorer who is just fun to root for.

The one thing that's kind of annoying about him is that every few months he just starts talking lineups or money or whatever else, and it always seems like he's wrong.

He needed hip surgery, he found a doctor that said he could potentially rehab it, and then ran with that. So then, guess what, he needed hip surgery because the potential rehab wasn't a good solution. And he was going on and on and making Book of Isaiah videos about how people didn't know the real scoop but it's like, in almost every instance, IT was the guy who was wrong.

Or how he went after Kevin Love last year. etc etc. His underdog story overshadows a lot of that, but, whoever gets him, just be prepared for the random complaints/observations that seem off target.

I think the Magic still get someone as free agency drags on as we have the full MLE available and it might be a Simmons type deal like last year where we grab someone due to nobody else having cash available.

We still look short at PG, SG, SF. Right now our depth chart is:

I know Ross plays SG and so does Grant. Plus Isaac will play SF too. But it still feels we are 1 body light as I expect Briscoe and Purvis to spend time in the G-league

I feel like we need either a backup SF/PF (with Ross then playing more minutes as SG) or another combo guard as I don't feel great about Augustin/Grant playing that many minutes. Preferably the guard option but there's not much out there. I feel like we should at least make the Celtics match an offer on Smart. Same with Jabari Parker

Edit: I forgot about our second round picks Melvin Frazier and Justin Jackson but they look like G league players too right now. Frazier looked so so in summer league and Jackson not played minutes. We should've taken Bates Diop who was pretty good last year and has looked good in summer league (but I'm biased as a Buckeyes fan)

It's a bit of a buyers market. I don't know who wants to offer Smart the type of money that Boston won't match. He's demanded 14m and anyone that wants to pay 14m will probably get him.

That is one of the sorriest lineups ever. If Briscoe is even on your team, that says a lot.

PG aside, it's not that bad to be honest.

We are clearly hoping our young core of Gordon, Isaac and Bamba are the future but Fournier and Vuc are still pretty good. Not all stars but at that level just below that I think. Simmons is also a pretty good rotational piece. Ross and Augustin are ok as bench players, below average if playing significant minutes.

I think Isaac is going to surprise a lot of people if he stays healthy. He was outstanding in the games he played last year, the problem being he only played 25 games. If he stays healthy I have no doubt in my mind he will be an all star in the next few years. He may even potentially be a DPOY candidate down the line. Hopefully he develops some offense but just on defense alone he's really really good.

Bamba I have no idea what to expect. Didn't see his college stuff and all I know about him is he's huge but needs to pile on some weight

Aaron Gordon still has plenty of time to kick on too. Even though he's been in the league for 4 years already, he is still only 22. So his 17.6/7.9 last year is pretty good considering his age.

So our main core is 22/20/20. We aren't expecting to be any good for a few years.

There are definitely worse teams out there

Welp. Magic GM says we are very likely done adding through free agency this year. He did at least specify free agency so a trade remains on the table but that's still disappointing. We have the MLE and apparently we're just going to sit on it despite our guard situation being pretty bad.

I have to assume they actually see something in Jerian Grant as unless they trade for a PG then him and Augustin are going to be playing a lot of minutes.
