Thinking about going there on my birthday for some surf and turf. I don't eat steak that often(Yes yes I know), so I'm not sure how good they are typically. Also pretty ignorant about steaks in general. Only ones I've had were (very) well done, and I couldn't tell you which type beyond "beef".

If someone else have any other recommendations for restaurants(That are in the south), feel free to recommend them as well!

Outback is fine.

Well done is not....

Medium at worst.

Medium rare or rare is only way to cook a steak.

Definitely do not do it well.

If you're afraid of rare, medium is perfectly fine. You will get a lot of juicy pink in the middle.

Outback is fine. Its not fine dining or anything but its good fare

Get your steak medium rare
Make sure you order a bloomin onion too

Id actually suggest you go to like carrabbas. Even though the same company owns them I generally find the food there to be superior (and more expensive but hey)

When going to a chain like that, always order it one level less than what you think is what your "acceptable" level is

For instance, if Medium is acceptable to you, order medium rare.

It's easier/quicker to get a steak thrown back on than it is to get a new one made, and chains tend to overcook if anything

Outback is pretty boring. If you don't eat steak much then you'll probably like it though. They know what they're doing at least. Blooming onion or loaded fries and such are great too. Ohhh and their bread...

But I mean if you're trying to celebrate, try to find a local place that is a little more exciting?

Either way, the cuts you can get are completely different:
NY Strip/Sirloin - Probably the most common, can't really go wrong. Lean and beefy/savory flavor. Medium maximum.
Ribeye - Reallyyy fatty, which makes it work even up to medium-well if you really don't want a red steak.
Filet Mignon - Boring, pass on it. Well, if you don't like beefy flavor then it's the way to go. No fat at all. Medium-rare maximum.

Outback is usually good, I tend to prefer Longhorn if you have any of those available. Either's prime rib is the best option to go for, and will be the least boring.

That's almost definitely a bad idea. You gotta at least pick what type of cut you want.

Outback is good. Most of these types of chains are good in general. You'll like it, especially if you don't eat steak much. I used to love their steak and shrimp combo. Order your steak so it is a bit red and bloody. Since you don't eat steak much medium is probably the safe bet.

Char from well done is a carcinogen if you think well done is healthier. Medium rare is the best way to eat steak. Outback is okay though I am sure that varies area to area.

We have 4 around here...

Lone Star
Texas Roadhouse
Outback
Longhorn

I put them in the order I prefer them.

Also Ribeye is the best steak. Sirloin is the second best.

Ribeye has the most taste.

Do not use steak sauce. That is literally for people who get well done steaks to cover the nasty taste. Chefs also give you the worst piece of steak for well done because they know you can't tell the difference once they cook it.

it's good. not amazing food but a good meal, you'll probably leave satisfied at least. maybe a little expensive though.

Had a 12 oz Ribeye with sauteed mushrooms and a cup of soup, family got the blooming onion as an appetizer and it was pretty great (although getting the pieces to come off the right way was a little annoying)

Also if you really want to celebrate, to the extent of paying $50, you should go to Texas de Brazil (or similar if one isn't around you, but I've been tons of churrascarias and TdB is generally the best) which is like $45 for literally unlimited steak

Texas de Brazil is the best. Do recommend. One of the best meals I've ever had. My goodness. In case you're not aware of Texas de Brazil, it's all you can eat food where they come around and offer you different cuts of all sorts of meat. Always pass up the flank steak though, because there is no point wasting time with a flank steak of all things with the other superior choices.

As far as chain steak places go though, I probably take Longhorn over Outback.

SO wrong. The flank is one of their most delicious meats for sure. They often cut off way too big of a piece, so you can ask for a smaller piece, but definitely don't skip it. Skip the bacon-wrapped filet if anything, or the sausage and other stuff like that.

Anytime the picanha (top sirloin) comes around though you need to get 1 or 2 slices. Also not sure if they have it everywhere but you can ask for beef rib, which is basically the fattiness of ribeye x10. 1 piece of that is always good, it's like meat dessert.
