I make that much in Nevada and I can easily afford a really nice apartment in a really nice neighborhood, go on vacations, make expensive purchases, eat organic groceries, buy clothes that i want, electronics, etc, and still save money.

Grantid I'm not making a ton of expensive purchases, but if I need something I don't have to worry about it.

Thats well more than enough in most places in the US to not only live comfortably enough but to also indulge a fair bit as a single person with no kids. Dont bother listening to sheltered cemen who tell you otherwise.

single with no kids even ~40k is decent living. If you're the only breadwinner then nope but yeah you can live decent enough with just 40k a year in NJ. Of course you can't just splurge on unnecessary items every paycheck but still.

I make 75k but I live in Australia where everything is bullshit expensive.

I make slightly UNDER the average wage. (think it's like 78k)

$50k is livable for sure. However its the lower end of middle earner.

You can easily live on that much in most of the US.

My wife and I live in Omaha which is a pretty decent sized city with plenty to do and make about $70k a year.

If we ditched the car payments we could easily live off of 50k here.

Where in NYC is this where 25k is enough to do ok? You have half a dozen roommies in Morningside Heights?

Single person with no kids you'd be surprised how much 25,000 a year can get you. Being able to take the train everywhere and not having to maintain a car and pay for gas is a big deal also.

its the big expenses that add up tbh

I get $500 deducted from my paycheck to go to car insurance, car note, and credit card bills, end up with $300 left to spend on what I have to spend on (on my current salary, it's going up to $500 more in my paycheck, 800 in total, so $1600 a month)

I can probably find a place for a grand and some change or so here in CNJ, or live with a roommate for $500-$600 and that would still leave me a grand left over for myself
