We just saw them at a local restaurant maybe two or three weeks ago. The kid has a history with drugs and I think some form of mental illness. I don't know him all that well. The mother who was stabbed is a friend of my mother-in-law's, I've seen her at parties and stuff but I've only met her son a handful of times. This is crazy.

We have a cool trophy in the form of a sword-bayonet that belonged to a French soldier (with four kills attributed to it given the markings - which is impressive on his part because the French were obliterated by the Prussians about 7 to 1 during that particular conflict).

That's crazy dude. As messed as it sounds, do you think this was surprising?

Here's what I mean. In 2011 a guy I knew stalked and killed his ex girlfriend, who I also knew, two guys (I knew one of them), and repeatedly shot but didn't kill another girl (who I didn't know) before turning the gun on himself. The fucked up thing is, after hearing it, while I was stunned by the news story I also wasn't really surprised. The guy was a total loose cannon. You never expect that kind of result but it's hard to be surprised when it happens. You kind of end up wishing you could have said something, but I didn't know any of them well enough, and I doubt even if I did it would have mattered.

We hear about murder so much that sometimes its easy(for me at least) to forget just how heinous and tragic it is. Someones entire life experience, all the time spent by others raising them and bonding with them emotionally, anything they would have done in the future and any children they might have had all just taken away in an instant because of the anger and pain someone else was feeling.

And in so many cases the murderer could just walk away. Whatever problems were in their life, whatever drove him to do it, he could have simply left and gone his own way separate from her and her family

Oddly enough, he copied my hairstyle. Apparently, I was a poor role model. That's a different story, though.

He was obviously kind of nuts. Very quiet, a dead look in his eyes. He got into a fight once and started barking at the other kid.
