Also imagine trying to equate not standing for your own anthem...to not standing for a shithole country's anthem.

I don't know if I would stand if I didn't support that move, which I kinda don't. The two Koreas "putting aside their differences to come together in peace" is a farce that implies they simply have a childish spat with each other about red vs. blue and not that one is literally, without hyperbole, the most evil country to ever exist.

I dunno. I feel this could be a way to ease some tensions.

I mean, North Korea has never done this before. The Olympics are a sanctity from all the unnecessary conflict in the world. It's a chance to come together and unify. The first time North Korea enters, of course we have a dipshit and his dipshit cotton swab in office.

I feel that if we had someone there to show we are respectful and open to being respectful, tensions between us and North Korea could ease. The fact that KJU has massive propaganda within the country to the point most North Koreas have never seen our flag, this was an opportunity for something. Think about it. Might the North Korean performances be shown in North Korea to the people? If so, it would give us a chance to show we have sympathy towards the shit they are enduring. KJU's sister is a propaganda mastermind. She could take this image of Pence not standing and simply prove to the people that America cares about no one, further feeding that propaganda machine.

Hell, if I was there, even with language barrier and knowing the Koreans would be there, I'd at least try to learn a few introductory lines to tell her "Welcome to the Olympics. I hope you have a good time here." or something like that.

Maybe that would do nothing, but it would be a memory she would forever hold and maybe question the rule of her brother.

She has a lot of pull in North Korea. It's an opportunity we are fucking up badly.

While I agree with this, she could have still twisted this whether he stood or not. All she needs is a pic of him not standing at any time throughout the ceremony to use against us. North Korea doesn't care.

That being said, I would have stood not for the shithole NK regime but for the people of NK. But I think it's a stretch for the media to make Pence look like the villain in this situation when NK is the country violating virtually every human right out there.

First off, Pence can go fuck himself. Second, there's a difference between not standing for the flag and taking a knee in protest of it.

It's like the difference between not going to a movie you don't want to see and getting on stage in front of the movie screen to disrupt other people's enjoyment of the movie.

lmao
Not standing and not kneeling for the flag are literally the same thing. It's failing to stand at attention and render the appropriate hand gesture to display honor for the flag. I mean I don't really care if people want to stand for the anthem at a sporting event personally, but the whole issue is that they're not standing in protest.

Well if you've followed the course of politics in the region over the past couple of decades, this isn't really a step towards any tangible, meaningful or substantial resolution of the tensions. This is what NK does to get sanctions eased and improve the economic situation temporarily.

Hell no, a pre-emptive strike would be a mistake of the century in my opinion.

But it's not a cookie cutter "They just want world peace because they sent some girls to the Olympics" scenario, either. It's probably the most complex and delicate geopolitical issues in the world. It's not magically over just because of what amounts to a political publicity stunt.
