I thought it was obvious that, after they revealed all of these charities, all of them were getting money from WWE. You're literally thinking Vince would rather commit a felony than get a ton of good publicity from the charities. Like he doesn't have a crack legal team that wouldn't tell him "This is illegal to give it all to your own charity."

I just watched the Jay White vs. Kenny Omega match.

For those in the know, how much of that was Jay White being really solid and how much of it was him benefitting from working with Kenny. I didn't watch White/Tanahashi from Tokyo Dome but I heard it was pretty underwhelming.

White is a very good pro wrestler so it definitely wasn't a carry job by Kenny or anything.

He looked very nervous and uncomfortable in the Tana match and there were a lot of things going against that match as far as crowd reaction, too. And even with all that, it was very well worked, it just wasn't the typical match anyone expected or hoped for out of a WK IC Title match that involved Tanahashi.

Against Omega, he seemed far more comfortable with the new gimmick and everything. That goes a long way in a promotion like New Japan. Now, if his first defense is mediocre and it's not because it's against Hangman Page or someone similarly boring, then Kenny obviously starts deserving more credit.

So I guess the overall answer would be that it's hard to really know for sure yet. Being fairly familiar with Jay, though, I'm confident in saying he's going to do very well.

Yes and it told a great story of Jay trying to hold on, it kinda made you root for him. I loved Kenny's building frustration as he was unable to put White away.

The problem is that less than 3 minutes after his big win, NJPW made White a distant memory.

When you follow it up with Kenny and Cody breaking up after a 6 month build and then pull the trigger on Ibushi and Kenny's reunion first teased when AJ Styles was still there, yeah Jay's gonna take a backseat.

I've seen Jay in england before he became Switchblade and his fundamentals are great, he's got good timing and execution but he just lacks presence.

The top guys like Okada and Tanahashi make absolutely simple moves have a huge dramatic impact, that short clothesline and crossbody are massively over because they spent years building them up as devastating moves, or at least gamechangers.

Jay's Blade runner got kicked out of already and he doesn't have anything in his arsenal that has the same feel as Okada's dropkick, Tanahashi's dragon screw, Ishii's sliding D and Suzuki's jet stomp.

I want him to succeed, but he's not off to the best of starts with this current run.

Speaking of NJPW I finally got a chance to watch my boy Juice taking on Kenny Omega for the US title from a few months ago.

He has improved SO MUCH even just from his IC title match early last year vs Naito.

He has become such an earnest and believable baby face. The story of his match with Kenny would have taken place over the course of 4 months and no one would have cared if wwe had tried it.

I've seen a lot of sentiment on a few forums, that people believe WWE and NJPW to actually be equal in in ring quality.

The only difference being Dave Meltzer likes Japanese style more, but WWE is actually just as good overall for in ring matches.

They'll point to NXT matches to back up their cases, though I'm never a fan of comparing a promotion's developmental title to another's world title.

When Finn Balor holds the NXT title, does it mean he is the best in the company and the face of the company? Not really, not while Brock's around.

There's just a lot of contextual changes when comparing the Elite performance center and a full fledged national promotion. It affects the narrative, the stakes and so forth.

If you want to point out the in ring stuff, then Dragon Gate is criminally overlooked. People adore Tozawa, Neville and they sure like Swann and Uhaa Nation before shit happened to them. They'll quickly end up liking Ricochet too and all those guys really improved with Dragon Gate, but they weren't the best there.

WWE is donating $100,000 to the winning charity, which obviously is already decided upon, and $10,000 to the others, so it doesnt come across like they are using their names and committing any kind of a fraud. Its still weird pretending to have competition for charity when its all decided ahead of time.

How is this not fraud still and illegal?

If they were given the same amount of money, sure. But they are having a "competition" to decide who gets the lion share of said money... except the competition isn't real.

And if your answer is.

"They are donating to the others too".

Why not give them a dollar then? According to our legal system the amount shouldn't matter,
apparently as long as they donate to all of them it's cool according to Dave. Anything that isn't EXAXTLY the same for all is absolutely by definition fraud, unless they told all of them before hand and those companies agreed to lose and get less money for their charities. But holy shit if they did that then they are stupid as they should have said no and went to the media which would

1: set the kayfabe curtain ablaze on news channels the most since Screw Job.
2: be horrible publicity that they tried to use these charities just to look good while donating to their own.
3: Force the WWE's hand and as a show they would give all the charities the money they should have gotten anyway.

Long story short, either Vince (and probably Steph, since this is her department) need to be in prison for fraud, or the CEO's of these non profits need to be termed for incompetence.

The losing team in the finals should try to shoot on the other team and win for real just to see what happens?

Most of these people couldn't give a shit about the charity they "picked" so shooting to win something you don't care about is really really stupid when you'll get fired.

The only time it would ever even be kinda prudent to shoot is like winning the Rumble.
Something to try to tie their hands. Or if you are booked to lose the ME of Mania but you are on the way out.
