What rights have been threatened, again?

Well, we still don't have equal rights everywhere. For example, in Texas there are almost no protections for gay people in terms of renting.

It's just wild to me that people think "Well I'm not homophobic and I don't see it therefore it's a dead issue and everyone everywhere will treat them equally". This has NEVER been the case. The country has been through a variation of this same damn issue for decades, just change the group being targeted.

Are you saying that gay people have more of a right to an apartment than the owner of the apartment building?

Yes, an owner should not be able to discriminate and refuse rental to a homosexual.

The questions that plague our nation...

Honestly I think the answer is that if you're 'something in between' male and female, you should go into the men's restroom, because men don't really give a shit who is in their bathroom, while women do care.

Too bad it's about the comfort of the trans individual. Bigoted discomfort gets no consideration.

So, people have no rights to the property they own?

If they open a business they have to operate under the law. That's how society works.

And stop it with the "GOTCHA!" style questions. It's not productive at all.

Exactly. It's great that we (gay people) have got marriage equality, but that doesn't cover everything.

What I was trying to get at earlier is, are there any protections you lack that straight people affirmatively have?
Obviously scale and likelihood not withstanding, I mean fundamental, under the law, overt and specific protections.

Because refusing to rent to a straight person in Texas seems legal too, unless I'm mistaken.

*note, I'm just being pedantic, I agree that sexuality should be protected in more cases, specifically with job security and housing.*

Not that I'm aware of. The post marriage issues revolve around things like housing, employment, and adoption*. In all those scenarios it's a lack of overt protection because those decision are due to private individuals and "soft" since there's a bunch of reasons besides sexuality that one may be deemed unworthy.

*See:
https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/gay-couple-sues-citizenship-twins_us_5a69a210e4b00228300971f7?section=us_queer-voices

Which is hypothetically something a straight yet infertile couple could also encounter, but then again it goes back to the likelihood thing. Outside of surrogacy, international funsies, and citizenship stuff there are some (Christian) adoption agencies that will indeed outright refuse to connect gay couples with potential non-offspring.

Yes, but neither are straight people. A straight person can also be denied insurance/housing because of their orientation. The only difference is straight discrimination is hypothetical and gay discrimination occurs.

To be honest, it's been par the course with the ruling powers through history.

In the US, we had period where Black people and other racial minorities didn't have basic rights (White people and Black people couldn't even legally marry, and let's not forget how White men flipped their shit if they saw a White woman with a Black man: see Emmet Till), and where women couldn't even vote or hold decent jobs, and the men in charge fought tooth-and-nail for as long as they could to keep things that way.

I think this is true.

This. I would also argue that the massive push for the "T and beyond" part of the movement has something to do with this as well. Advocacy for children transitioning, 101 genders and grown men in drag using female washrooms. This insane crap and identity bull is why I think the LGB and the gender insanity or what not should be split as one deals with acceptance of a sexual preference and the other deals with mental health and personal identity issues.

This tactic within the LGBT community irritates me. Specific groups pretend anything less than explicit inclusion is explicit exclusion, which is stupid.

I advocate changing the initialism to GSD, Gender and Sexual Diversity. Boom - everything is covered, it never needs to be altered, and people can finally shut the fuck up about it.

I would love to see this exact same study done, but split so that people are asked about comfort of gay men, comfort of lesbians, comfort of trans people, and comfort of nonbinary people. I'm willing to bet the increase in discomfort has nothing to do with the "LGB" part, but since it's all bundled you can't tell for sure.

also the idea of men being obsolete going across media and gaining traction in big disney movies might have them question "hmm, where is this coming from?" and possibly conclude it is related to transexuality or lesbianism

About 2000 from all over. It's a harris poll; see my previous link.

But, then again about 21% of respondents think TGBLQ people don't deserve equal rights so I expect that exact same sect would be uncomfortable interacting with them in any capacity, so there's a 10-15% margin of people who are still coming to terms with "I want them to be gay in general, but do they really have to be my friends, family, and neighbors? Can't they just be gay somewhere else?"
