Moving forward, we plan to release all new Xbox One exclusive games from Microsoft Studios into Xbox Game Pass on the same date as their global release. This means that when Sea of Thieves launches on March 20, it will be included in Xbox Game Pass to all members.

This plan to bring new games timed with their global release into Xbox Game Pass not only includes announced titles like Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2 and Crackdown 3 but future unannounced games from Microsoft Studios including new iterations of our biggest Xbox One exclusive franchises such as Halo, Forza and Gears of War, on the same day they launch.

The full list of games currently included: https://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-game-pass-complete-game-list

I don't subscribe yet, but this makes it tempting.

Damn that's a sweet deal. I play only digital nowadays unless there's a game I really want physically (mainly Nintendo games though). Does gamepass work with game sharing?

It's only the Microsoft exclusive games so it'll be like 3 games a year.

That's pretty awesome. Still not a great deal for me though, because I spend a lot of time on individual games. I couldn't see myself paying a monthly subscription to play one game for 3 months, I'd rather just buy the game.

I mean, the math works out where you'd be paying $30 instead of $60 (if it was just the three months), but I get where you're coming from. The appeal of the service is still in the quantity and not relying on it for the four games Microsoft makes each year.

Similar in this way to EA Access, which has a bunch of their old games but offers free trials and discounts on the new ones.

That's true but I don't often pay $60 for games. Also I like to go back and replay titles, which in this case means I'd be paying for it again

I consider this to be pretty big news?

Like Microsoft are potentially changing their model for their games going forward. They're changing to a service that has a goal where they aim for active monthly subscribers instead of people who preorder $60 games or microtransations or whatever.

The potential for this is exciting. If they really diversify their exclusive games they fund this will be a killer service.

I've been waiting for some kind of model like this honestly, the only thing it was lacking for me was new games, like Netflix releases originals. It's probably a selling point for me for the game pass, and I might not buy Sea of Thieves now.

Yeah I think that's gotta be Microsoft's next step now. They should be funding a whole bunch of unique and exclusive content that they can put on the Game Pass day one.

I think Sea of Thieves and Crackdown 3 were destined to bomb in retail. But now they'll be completely fine thanks to this. Even if they don't sell well they add a lot of value to the Game Pass service.
