have you ever been to another city in your own country or in another country where you had culture shock before? i'm sure you know what culture shock is..it's where you're shocked at how people live that you're not used to..let's see if people have....

Went to Singapore and everything was so clean and there were no buskers or beggars. And actually functioning public transport.

When I first emigrated to the US I was shocked by the complete lack of public transport and by how awful the drivers were. I literally saw more car accidents in my first week here than I had in my entire life in England. In England I could go years without seeing a car accident, in the US I regularly see 2-3 or sometimes more in my 20 minute commute to or from work. It's ridiculous.

And yet somehow car insurance is vastly cheaper here than England despite more accidents and cars being more expensive

My first time visiting NYC after living in a PA small town my whole life.

Traffic backed up so bad ambulances couldn't get through, more people than I had probably seen in my life up to that point.

I took a cab and the driver literally cut off a fire truck. I can't imagine living in a big city like that

But it was weird because the other relatively big cities I've been to (Boston, Indianapolis, Philly) weren't even comparable

Not really. I guess China a little. Qatar too westernized to be shocking. If anything them having stuff like Papa John's and Krispy Kreme here was the shock.

certainly going to foreign countries was pretty crazy....probably the one time it came close within the US was when I was in New Orleans for a week. Bourbon street was kinda crazy, but a lot of the surrounding area was quite picturesque. England was wild because you'd have beautiful lush, green landscapes directly next to packed urban areas. It was a bit like a fantasy land in parts, compared to the U.S. Very interesting and historic - more regal. Like ShatteredElysium mentioned, driving is quite different - the actual guidelines on the roads and direction of traffic seemed more lax, but everyone pretty much seemed to know what was going on (though London had its share of sketchy drivers).

The biggest moment of culture shock was my first day out of an airport in Brazil. I was staying in Manaus and it was easily the poorest area I was in for my entire trip (during the 2014 world cup). I had to get bottled water since drinking the hotel sink water was obviously out, and I had to walk down to this marketplace that was set up almost on the river - you had to walk on wooden boards to stay above the water. They had kids selling food, water & stuff, it was really like a third world country just in that one area. Experiencing that on my first day made the rest of the cities seem very urbanized. Not to mention that was the only city where I didn't really interact with any english-speaking people.
