I feel like 90% of the memes I've seen the past few years have been utterly devoid of any humor and are just people saying the same damn thing over and over again out of context.

Memes have changed in 2 ways
1. They became like a business, churned out in a factory at very high volumes, trying to identify the best stuff and throwing away the 99% garbage. So it's hard to find good ones, but they do exist. 2. Memes are communication more than ever, so they don't necessarily need to be funny or interesting. There are plenty of great memes. Sure, lots of inferior versions get made, but that's the beauty of reddit. The best stuff usually gets up voted and weak memes die in obscurity.
It really depends on the communities you follow. R/hearthstone and r/Dota2 are really never ending supplies of satisfying memery for me, but that's what you get with communities with people like Disguised Toast and SirActionSlacks If you are just judging by the stuff you see shared on facebok by your family or something, yeah it can be pretty weak. Normal people often see a really generic meme that we've seen done better a thousand times but they love it. I'm not a huge fan of expanding brain since I've seen soon many weak attempts at it, but it can be good Distracted Boyfriend is gold and will be mined for years to come --- Cly at Work So more power to North Korea for this one.
