Apart from maybe one or two times when my youngest sister was being particularly troublesome and she got a good spanking.

No. I was intimidated by my dad because he was big, had guns, martial arts training, and was a cop. Not to mention I could have money withheld and would be prevented from buying more Ninja Turtles, so it was easy to make me stay in line. Aside from all that, I wasn't a fucking idiot and understood how to act properly in public.

Spanking a two year old? A child that small doesnt know anything and needs instruction and guidance, not corporal punishment.

A firm no and taking the time to demonstrate what behavior youd like to correct will go a lot further than bullying and intimidating a baby.

My Dad yeah. He took it to the extremes at times mind so he's not even above that. As for my mum? At a guess I'd say yes too(wouldn't really know as she's dead to me) as she was/is mentally unstable and due to her I ended up in hospital when young because she couldn't handle a kid crying. I could have died so it's safe to say she wasn't any better either. She was/is actually worse on that front.

On a side note: My sister has kids now and she really against "spanking" due to this. I'd probably be the same too in some capacity.I'm not against spanking it's just not something I'd personally do as a form of punishment when it comes to kids.

My parents spanked us at that age, but it was only for absolutely critical things, such as "Don't play in the road" or other things that could have us die from a moments distraction. Things where if they failed to keep us from doing it, there was no turning back and we could die. Their philosophy was that they'd rather have us afraid of getting spanked and stay safe than dead lying on the road because they were afraid of hurting our feelings. As we grew up and were capable of understanding, it lessened until it didn't happen again. Also, I've never met a child that will listen to just a firm no and instruction and guidance. They don't understand most of what you're talking about and will normally just follow their curiosity and try to satisfy it, but they will understand pain and understand that they don't want it.

Yeah, because its a child. Of course they arent going to listen to you once and never repeat bad behavior. It takes time and patience to teach children how to behave. Theres literally no reason to beat children. If you cant handle children misbehaving without resorting to violence, you shouldnt have children.

Spankings made it so I didn't do bad things again. At least, not when they were around. Haha. I don't think spankings are bad. But I feel taking away certain things can be better. It all depends...

2 incidents growing up.
younger years

actual parents didn't believe in spankings, more of taking things away for bad behavior.
which only happened once, lost access to the sega for 2 days for something i did (can't remember what i did to deserve that).

I'm not saying it's good to give permission to non-relatives. But I guess it would depends on how close the families were. Like maybe the parents were close or something. Possibly best friends. I mean, this may not apply to this person, but it could for others.
