Airsoft guns have an orange tip. It's super illegal to remove that. I do not see an orange tip on that. My guess is: real gun, but staged image just to screw with people as a joke.

I'm not here to insult you or start a flame war, but there are literally thousands and thousands of different looking AR-15's, especially with upper/lower/grip/mag/sight/barrel/stock/foregrip/heatshield(etc...) combinations. They are as customizeable to build as a gaming PC. I mean you might as well say "I drank a bottle of liquor before my wedding, and this isn't what it looked like." There are tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of bottles of liquors of different shapes/sizes/colors/labels etc.

That said, it looks like an airsoft gun from the small picture on my phone.

It is only illegal to remove in certain states. They don't even sell them with orange tips in my state. At least some brands don't. If that IS a real carbine, and they are just posing for a prank picture, I'm pretty pissed off, because her finger is on the damn trigger. Which is a major violation of gun safety and gun rules. Don't ever put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to shoot, PERIOD. And this barrel is obviously pointed in an unsafe direction, finger on trigger. Major major no-no.

That depends entirely on city law. I have one city that you can set up a gun range in your back yard (as long as it has proper back stop, like a hill), and literally a 4 minute drive will bring you to a place that it is a felony to discharge a weapon without it being in self-defense etc.

But if that picture is real, 5.56x45mm NATO would have absolutely no problem flying through that fence and keep going for a while.

I love both guns. I'd rather have an AK-47 in close quarters, that is just a nasty and reliable firearm. For medium engagements, though, I'd rather have one of my AR-15's with a red sight.

74 is 5.45x39 which is a phenomenal cartridge. There are 5.56 AKs out there but they be doodoo

If you're referring to me, I welcome you to disprove or disqualify anything I've said. There are a couple things in my life that I know with fervent dedication, and those are my two main passions: Firearms and automobiles. I spend a lot of time correcting common misinformation being spread in both subjects. (A car example would be the false myth that you need backpressure in an exhaust. Back pressure is always bad. That incorrect "knowledge" started with ricers, I think.) You didn't name me, though, so I'm not sure what you're referring to.

Well I'm no expert... but

There's zero useful metadata, but from the scroll bar on the top left you can see it's a screenshot someone took on their phone on Facebook, aka not the original digital photo. On top of that text has been edited into it. That makes it a lot harder to tell if it's shopped, since it's so compressed.

Still no obvious shopping. But I'd also like to point out her hair. Her hair is perfectly blended into the background. That would have been a pain in the ass to shop. It would have been much easier trimming that out.

But I can tell you right now, this picture is real, and that is an airsoft gun. Why? There are no holes in the fence. It's been pelted by tons of airsoft bullets in that general area. The wood is much brighter around the targets from pellets knocking off the darker outer rot from the wood.

If that many rounds went through that fence... there would be no fence.

And if we want to get really technical, we can do some trigonometry to calculate exactly where she's aiming with her gun using the size of her headset as a reference. I think if that sight was on the center of the target, we can 100% confirm it's a real picture.

I also noticed something awfully strange... On the version of the picture I found there is no scroll bar. On the one in the OP, there is. That could mean multiple people screen-capped the same picture.

Yup. The time stamps in the picture itself (one at "55 minutes ago", the other at "20 minutes ago")

That probably means that was a real post on a real public facebook page somewhere. You might even be able to dig it up but I don't feel like going on facebook. It was possibly deleted.
