Really catchy melodies. Parts of it are heavily reminiscent of The Kinks best moments, that sorta poignant but energetic punky pop rock. Its nothing I go crazy over, nothing here I can really say I love, but I definitely enjoy it.

This is normally not my sorta thing... like at all. But Comedown and Machinehead are extremely fun grungey rock songs, surprisingly great sense of dynamics. The songwriting is kinda awkward and weird, and a lot of this seems a little bit meatheady, but Ive got a lot of nostalgia for about half of this.

The other Straits albums Ive heard at least have a standout song or two, but this is just far too dry for me. I get what its trying to do, but I find this kinda bluesy pub rock a little dull unless its in small doses. Its probably good at what it does but I dont pay enough attention to this stuff to really know

Sorry I keep shitting on your picks, but a lot of this tends not to grab me. Ive always wanted to like Wilco because I love Tweedys work in Uncle Tupelo, but I just find this sorta limp. Nothing here really pops out, and I feel like Im just missing some sort of subtlety in the music that makes so many love it

Kinda like if REM went full on country... really immediate and emotional music. It just feels more stripped down and to the point than the later stuff with Wilco, and it shifts really well between the more rocking moments and the delicate stuff.

7/10
Feels a little cheesy in comparison to Uncle Tupelo for me, the more uptempo rock based material is a bit of a miss for me as well, but this still has a lot of memorable moments. Windfall and Too Early are especially strong standouts, and its overall a pretty good listen

Normally I like my death metal a little more sloppy and punky like this, but I feel like Death themselves didnt really find their voice until they polished up and took on more complex structures in the 90s, this just feels a little predictable in places. However, these songs still kick ass and its a really consistent record song by song, extremely fun stuff.

I feel like it kinda lacks the off the wall madness that made Vroom Vroom so much fun and theres a few too many features that distract from Charli, but the ones that do work, Carly, CupcakKe, etc. really work well. What really saves this release is that the songs themselves are just so catchy. The melodies and the beats are simply fantastic and are extremely fresh and forward thinking. This grows on me a little bit more with every listen.

God the songwriting on this album is so good. Everything about this is so direct and real, great emotion, great melodies, great energy. In my opinion this is some of the most pure rock music out there, it doesnt get much better than this.

7/10
Yoo Doo Right is a stone cold classic, theres a reason it takes up half the album. The moods conveyed in that song range wildly, its one big adventure delivered through primitive yet affective structure and songwriting. The rest is just alright with me, they hadnt quite found their groove yet.

Some great songwriting here, and its interesting to see Costello take a more rootsy style, and the best songs are pretty memorable. However, i just feel like a good chunk of this is pretty dull, the melodies are really weak compared to what he was doing on his first few albums, I just know the man is capable of better.

The first disc is 2Pac at his most interesting by far. This is the first and only time hes captivated me much as a rapper, and the lyrics are great as always. I dig the obvious highlights here, but I think it gets a little tired by the end. The second disc is really forgettable in my opinion, these all kinda follow the same formula after a while. The beats are kinda whatever too.

Havent listened, I dont like the songs Ive heard of Nas outside of a few features

Havent listened, same thing I said about Nas applies here

I get this is a game changer, but I still dont really care for it. The high pitched soul samples are interesting at first but get really annoying after a while, theyre very overused here. I actually like some of Kanyes rapping here, hes a little more restrained than on his later releases and it works, I think its the highlight of the album. But as a whole I dont really find the songs themselves very interesting and its just very ineffective for me overall.

7/10
The highlights here are some of the best songs the genre has to offer. Fuck Wit Dre, Let Me Ride, Stranded On Death Row, and of course Nuthin But a G Thang are all stone cold classics in my opinion. The G-Funk production works wonders here, its simultaneously both chill and aggressive and compliments the fun gangsta lyrics. So when this album works, its a borderline masterpiece. But the more thoughtful stuff here like Lil Ghetto Boy just kinda falls flat, and the skits are really annoying.

6/10
Similar to what I said about Biggie earlier in this thread, but Snoop is one of my favorite MCs, even though I dont usually care for his songs himself as much. Hes got this silky smooth, borderline careless sound to him, its so casual and effortless sounding. I could listen to him rap the dictionary. Otherwise I could basically say the same things I said about The Chronic here, except there arent quite as many highlights.

To say this record is emotional would definitely be an understatement. Theres no getting around it, this stuff is devastating and does it in a very direct way. And this album got me bad on certain parts. However, while I am all for sparse arrangements when the music calls for it, it feels like almost every song here is stripped down to very little melody even, which does get a little exhausting by the end of the album. Still, its a very good album thats one of a kind and worth a listen for sure.

First heard of Froide from the Wave-Klassix compilation several years ago, which had Dermain Berlin on it, and that was an obvious highlight on it and is also the highlight on this EP. Brilliantly ugly and sparse, the rest of the EP is just alright with me, all good but outside of that song doesnt particularly stand out as anything I havent heard before

Love the atmosphere on this one, its very consistently strong, taking industrial sounds and putting them into a more digestible rock format. Fucking awful, I could fault Sublime for a bunch of superficial reasons, like bastardizing reggae/ska for the general populace for a whole generation, being overplayed to death, or for ripping off countless better bands, but the worst thing about them is they just sound really bad. Boring, weak melodies, gross attempts at humor, bland and sterile arrangements and just being all around obnoxious. I really hate this.

Congratulations on simultaneously getting both the first 1/10 and 10/10 of the thread. To me, this is the pinnacle of emo. Completely one of a kind, performing a genius balancing act of relentless hardcore, with delicate, borderline psychedelic experimental moments. The sheer passion on this record has never been even close to being matched, through every single moment it feels strictly personal and from the heart. Few records manage to so seamlessly blend together beautiful and ugly sounds, especially such a raw recording like this, but it does it flawlessly.
