Board 8 > SHINE and Arti rank their 22 Platinum Trophies in 2017

Somehow, when looking over our trophy lists from the past year we ended up both having 22 platinum trophies over 2017 and decided to do a group ranking topic of the 22 games we completed.

SHINE's currently at work so I'll start off with

22. My Name is Mayo (PS4)

It really needs no introduction and is merely pressing the X button 10,000 times. Not even really a game and I never bothered adding it to my backloggery either.

21. and 20. Arcade Game Series: Ms. Pac-Man and Pac-Man (PS4)

Decided to lump these two together since their lists are basically the same. The game, as the title says, is a port of the arcade versions of each game. Both are very easy even if you suck at Pac-Man since you have five lives to pass a level and can start from the last level you reached (The platinum requires round 17). The only hard part in Ms. Pac-Man was eating all four ghosts four times in a round, and Pac-Man had that trophy plus Fruit Basket which made you eat all fruits in a single run. It took a few tries but only added another hour to the platinum.

19. Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (Vita)

While I did beat this last year, I only got an A rank in chapters 2 and 3 so I had to play most of the game over again to get the platinum. Thankfully I didn't have to climb the tower again, and didn't have to go through that segment in Chapter 3. Most of the platinum run was clearing up all the collectibles I missed and solving the puzzle rooms (the best part of the game) in the three chapters I didn't A-rank. Afterwards, I farmed Monokuma kills in the beginning of Chapter 4 and the throne room in Chapter 5, where a Bomber Monokuma will spawn endlessly and you're given free Break bullets every time you run out.

I disliked the game the first time I played through it, and going through it again did little to change my mind. It's an easy platinum overall but playing it is just not fun.

Hey 2017 is over and we got PLATINUMZ

It was weird ranking these because I didn't really factor in the quality of the game itself, just how much I enjoyed working towards the platinum. While overall difficulty did play a role, it was more how much fun I had as well so you might see easier platinums rank over harder ones or shorter ones rank over longer ones. For most of the year I was switching back and forth between playing PS4 games and working on my PS2 collection. This also included PS2 games I had digitally on PS3 and PS4 so the PS4 ones ended up having trophies and platinums of their own! So you'll see a lot of PS2 games on this list mixed in with the rest so please don't be confused!

With that said last place and also a DOUBLE PLATINUM because I just finished up my 23rd for the year:

23./22. - Platinum #131 GET and Platinum #151 GET - My Name is Mayo (PS4 and Vita)



A platinum so dumb I did it twice...especially now that there's cash rewards involved! Arti pretty much said everything you need to know about it. You click a jar of mayo 10,000 times to open it and cosplay it in various costumes and/or accessories. Can be done in like an hour or 20 minutes with a turbo controller

21. Platinum #132 GET - Dark Cloud 2



Man, Dark Cloud 2 was a good game, but that platinum bordered on Star Ocean levels which I was not ready for. Completing this game is an accomplishment for sure, but it was one of those games where after the fun factor had left me it was more a battle of will just to prove to the game itself it shouldn't mess with me. This platinum was basically a 100% run and for anyone who's play Dark Cloud 2 you know how crazy that sounds. It included things like inventing every object and winning every medal in every chapter (SO MUCH SPHEDA), defeating the Dark Genie, 100% all Georamas, etc.

This was also the first time I had played the game so I didn't have prior experience to make things easier for myself I had to learn it all as I was doing it. I don't have my final time handy but HLTB says it takes 131 hours to complete and that sounds about right.

20. Platinum # 141 GET - Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy



Fahrenheit on the other hand is not a good game and the first of the David Cage Trilogy of Sadness (soon to be a Tetralogy). This platinum gets tedious because of the story based nature of the game you have to replay chapters multiple times to find the hidden tarot collectibles and make different choices throughout the story to get different endings. Then you have to do it all again on the hardest difficulty where you have to do all the QTE's perfectly or lose a life (of which you only have like 5, but you can earn more).

Like 80% of the trophies were completing a chapter a very certain way even though there's multiple ways to complete each chapter so if you do it that very specific way you need to come back and replay it to get it that way. Not a ton of fun and despite the gameplay being the bad the story was so goofy the first time I at least enjoyed it on my first playthrough.

19. Platinum #134 GET! - Arcade Game Series: Galaga



Galaga's alright! I played it a lot as a kid. My mom loves Galaga she played it a lot more than me. This was a pretty simple platinum. Getting to level 30, killing 1 of each enemy type and getting perfects on all the bonus stages that show up between stages 1-30. Thanks to the fact these Arcade Game Series let you save your game whenever you can utilize that to upload cloud saves and reload if you can't beat a specific challenge. I had to utilize this more for Galaga than any of the other Arcade Game Series games because man Galaga can get hard.

18. Everybody's Gone to the Rapture (PS4)

First things first, the game looks great. It really captures the feeling of a rural English town in the 1980s. However, playing this game is an annoying chore. The platinum requires a whole host of collectibles that are scattered throughout the map with very little guidance to find anything. The Bittern books are a complete annoyance because of how small they are as well. The game also has the slowest protagonist in the world who can't run in buildings and can barely get up to max speed before running into another collectible object. I even missed one of the items needed for Completionist, but the game gives you leeway of one item if that does happen.

Despite the tedious walking around, the story was pretty good for the exploration part and then fell flat on its face when it got to the end. It's not worth the play through despite the graphics and parts of a good storyline.

18. Platinum #137 GET! - Arcade Game Series: Ms. Pac-Man



Another one Arti already listed. I did regular Pac-Man last year so only Ms. Pac-Man this year. This was actually one of the first video games I had ever played when I was a young little SHINE so it was nice to revisit it again and play it for TROPHIEZ

17. Lara Croft GO

After playing through Hitman GO earlier I had a feeling this would be good, but it wasn't as good as I had hoped. Hitman GO has multiple objectives per stage - beat the stage within x turns, kill all enemies, etc. Lara Croft GO removed that and had only get to the end of the stage, which was disappointing already. Instead it replaced this with a pixel hunt in the background to collect treasures. Some treasures could only be opened if Lara was standing in the one square that the treasure appears, so many stages had to be played multiple times to find them. I eventually had to look up a guide to find the last few. There's also a hint system, but it doesn't actually gives you hints, it just directs you to the end in the fastest way possible. I triggered it once during a level and was annoyed that it just gave me the answer instead of a hint.

Dark Cloud 2 is a great game, but I agree that the requirements for the platinum are insane. I was actually planning on going for it, but I got to chapter 7 and realized I missed a single photo that I had no way of getting anymore and gave up.

16. Wheels of Aurelia (PS4)

The weird visual novel/racing game hybrid taking place in Italy and starring Lella and her conversations with the various people she meets up with. The stories are interesting... maybe the first few times through the game, but they quickly become repetitive and the platinum requires all sixteen endings and all cars to be collected. At least the game is pretty short and doesn't require too much skill. Honestly, I had more fun just leaving the car on autopilot and watching it repeatedly crash into every car it passed by. There was no penalty for doing so, even.

Also, the trophy list says PS4/Vita but I never saw any Vita version in the PS store. I wonder why that is.

17. Platinum #135 GET! - Arcade Game Series - Dig Dug



Surprisingly the first time I played Dig Dug. Even more surprisingly I liked it more than Ms. Pac-Man or Galaga. The main trophy points here are getting all the collectables that appear in the first 12 or so stages. You'll get everything else except for 2 weird ones. One of which is completely clearing out all the dirt on a stage, which would never happen normally unless you're purposely trying to go for the highest score possible because you need to avoid the enemies as much as you can to have the time to clear the dirt. The other one is killing 100 enemies in a single playthrough which can be accomplished around stage 18 or 19 if you kill every enemy in every stage. The game starts getting hard around like stage 4 though so it needs a lot of practice (or using save + cloud saves)

15. Miracle Girls Festival (Vita)

I feel like I might have enjoyed this a lot more had I actually watched any of the anime that were represented in this game. Sadly I did not, but I still liked the Project Diva rhythm gameplay and some of the songs. The only dumb trophy was having to leave the game on for twenty-four hours when everything else was completed in around 8-10 hours. As such it was only average at best.

16. Platinum #129 GET! - Dark Cloud



My first platinum of 2017! This game is not as good as Dark Cloud 2 as it was a 1st gen PS2 game, but it's simpler nature made it easier to enjoy and I actually liked attaining 100% georama in this one. It's a pretty simple beating the game, do 100% georama, get a level 10 weapon and do all the fishing type of game. As someone who also enjoys video game fishing I was into this game and its platinum.

15. Platinum #150 GET! - Horizon: Zero Dawn



THE BIG ONE FIVE ZERO! I didn't make any special plans for 150 it just came as I was in the process of catching up on all the 2017 games I didn't get to. By the time I got to this game all the DLC and its available trophies had already been released so I got those as I played the main game. Typical open world platinum with finishing the story, having trophies connected to certain sidequests, finding all the collectibles and various combat feats. For the core platinum only 1 playthrough is required which is appreciated although DLC added a new game+ and a higher difficulty so I ended up doing those anyway :|

I kept it on normal for my playthrough but if you wanted you could totally put it all the way down to story difficulty and beat everything in one hit to make this platinum trivial.

14. Platinum #149 GET - Tekken 7



A quick and easy platinum I think I had it after 2 play sessions in just as many days. I really enjoyed this game because I didn't have to play it as a Tekken game. I just pick Geese Howard and play it as King of Fighters and it works. Typical fighting game trophies although super lenient with its online trophies. Just win 1 of every match type and play 10 matches total. The rest is doing the story, playing treasure battle and just performing various moves in fights.

14. Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed (Vita)

After getting the first two Neptunia platinums in 2013 and then burning out on Victory I basically took my leave from this series and didn't play much of it at all. I put this on a list of games I wanted to complete during the summer, so I went through it all. The main story was very short and it all finishes in a 50 floor postgame dungeon which is actually the best part of the game. Sadly, like most Neptunia games there's a ton of postgame grinding for lily ranks which all need to be maxed (Lv 10) between each pair of characters (45 total pairs with 10 characters). Luckily, climbing up to the top with all characters raises every pair by 1 level which minimizes the grinding needed. The game also has a pointless clothes ripping "feature" which has events related to it that are needed for the platinum. Luckily you can get items that remove the feature for each character after completing a number of missions. This also made me start up some more Neptunia games, which you'll see later in the list.

13. Day of the Tentacle Remastered (Vita)

One of the two old Tim Schafer games I played this year, and this is the lesser one of the two. Unlike the other Tim Schafer game this has a very boring trophy list consisting just of going through the storyline with a few extra missables, and doesn't really go into the dialogue as much. Also, the game also has a port of Maniac Mansion inside it, which allows you to play the prequel to this game (and there's one trophy that requires it!) I liked the game overall but the platinum has a 42%+ rate on PSNProfiles, and it's easy to see why that is.

Yeah, Hitman is my favorite, and almost nobody has Deus Ex as their favorite, but among the few people that I know have gone through all three, Lara Croft seems to be the favorite.

I dunno what SHINE is doing so time to disappoint Robazoid instead. At this point I think I've liked all the 12 games that are left and would recommend you play each of them.

12. Life is Strange (PS4)

I only decided to play Life is Strange after all the episodes were released so I could get the full story, as in 2016 I was so disappointed with how The Walking Dead Season 2 turned out that it made me dislike the episodic releases. It was definitely worth the wait; I enjoyed most of my time with the game and the platinum wasn't hard to get either - it revolves on taking many optional pictures that let you see different scenes and dialogue in the game, which is a plus for this game. Though I still feel I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't played Steins;Gate so soon beforehand because of the similarity in the main character's abilities and the fact that I think Steins;Gate is my favorite VN. I still recommend it for anyone, especially since it's $2 on PSN right now for the PS3 version.

Also, the correct answer at the end is to sacrifice Chloe, since even if you sacrifice Arcadia Bay, Chloe will probably die soon afterwards.
