What if I told you that your ancestors likely had similar or worse age difference in your family's past?

What if I told you that your ancestors likely had slaves at some point?

My mom was way too young when she and my dad had sex, and then got married. It wasn't even that long ago. Doesn't make my dad any less of a creep that people used to marry children. Society used to be pretty fucked up. They didn't let women vote, they considered black people 3/5ths human, and they were generally okay with the slaughter of Native Americans for their land.

I just wonder when we became afraid to make our own decisions on things like this over fear of repercussions. Like, we are the United States. We have the right to acknowledge the capital of a country if we want to. When has America ever been a country to not do what they feel is right due to threats of violence?

By the way, lots of companies are announcing wage hikes to $15 an hour. Didn't democrats want wage hikes? Oh, right, they only want this when a democrat is in office.

I've seen a lot of comments elsewhere like, "it's just a PR stunt!" or "these corporations already had that money anyway!" which are incredibly flimsy of course. Why can't we just celebrate people getting raises and bonuses?

Raises are good.
Bonuses are us being trained seals getting excited for our treat.

Also I don't hear McDonald's suddenly offering a $15/hr raise for their employees, and from what I understand workers for Wells Fargo are already paid $14/hr.

And finally at&t is still planning to lay off 300 workers in Texas even with these tax cuts so...

Don't forget about likely rises in health insurance premiums, meaning companies that offer insurance for their employees will either A) have to take up more of the cost themselves or B) pass off the increases on their employees.

$1000 bonus is nice until you get a $1500 per year increase in insurance premiums.

The US never held off because of "threats of violence", but because politically it was stupid and also was likely to hinder the peace process which the US would like to see completed.

This move angers 75% of the world. That's a reason not to do it, not because of "threats of violence", because it means you are less likely to get the things you want.

Does where the US dictates the capital of Israel matter? Not at all.
Do other countries think it matters? Yes.

I think this is an irrelevant decision with some merit (because every country should self-determine their capital and Israel determines it as Jerusalem), that is also stupid.

Because the why matters and they are not doing this out of the kindness in their hearts. These companies are getting free PR for handing out scraps and the Ulti's of the world just slurp that up. Att making a 1 time bonus payment to its employees and thanking Trump for it when they need to him get their merger passed. Comcast announcing their bonus a day or 2 after they announce price hikes for next year. It takes just 2% of their tax cut for Wells Fargo to raise the minimum wages for some of their employees to 15 dollars up from 13.50. Yeah thats cool for those employees. But its sucks for the people whose insurance rates go up with the mandate penalty set at 0. it really sucks for those kids who are losing their insurance next year because we gave a shit ton of money to the already rich before renewing the CHIP program. Expect them to come for Medicare/Medicaid and other entitlement programs to pay for all of this as well. We arent celebrating a handful of people getting bonuses because we know where this is going. Our country just gave a ton of money to people who didn't need it and is going to pay for it by taking away the safety nets from the people who really need them.

Yeah the idea that democrats don't play identity politics is laughably wrong. You people only care what group someone 'belongs' in or what letter is next to their name. If Trump ran as a democrat and was the exact same way, you'd all love him. It's kind of pathetic actually.

I mean, they might get behind the demagogue BS, but he'd have to reverse 98% of his policies.

Not that it would do anything, but I'd like to note for the record that someone should - for the lolz - go find the topics from the time Mueller was appointed.

Because I distinctly recall a very different message.

Or we can do that way down the road whenever the investigation reports its findings.

Personally, I think both sides are being really dumb

The average person WILL see their taxes reduced, which is what people on the right are excited about. They're not really making anything up. They see it as "Tax cut = win," and there's not really anything deceptive about it (atleast from people in this topic.)

On the other hand, it leaves a lot of things up to question for the future, which is what the left are worried about. We don't know the impact it will have on health insurance premiums, we don't know what they will cut to pay for this, and with the fact that it's not hidden that... While yes, the tax cuts do help everybody, they help the wealthy much, much more, it makes it reasonable to be worried that things that help the middle/lower class will be what end up in the crosshairs.

This tax plan, as far as Washington Republicans are concerned, is basically a case of "This helps the people some and our donors a lot more." The right are focused on the first half of that sentence, while the left are worried about the second half.

Both are reasonable reactions.

Serious question: Do you care anything at all about anyone who is not yourself? Does it bother you that paying for your tax cut will most likely involve cutting social services that millions of your countrymen rely on to live?
