I'm torn. When he's fighting the big...fat thing in the trailer, the combat looks good...but when he's fighting that knight near the end, it just looks so stiff. No oomph to his attacks. Its not staggering the thing at all.

Yeah, I really wanted Nioh to be a samurai Souls. I enjoyed its combat, though the different styles were pretty irrelevant imo. But it lacked the charm and atmosphere that Souls has. Played for about 30 hours, maybe 3/4 through the story, before I just kind of sat back and was like, "I'm not getting what I wanted to get from this game." I don't know, hard to describe. I don't dislike Nioh, but...yeah.

they were smart enough to give most of the casts masks so we wouldn't notice shitty lip sync animations

i had the same feeling. for me it's because nioh copied all of dark soul's gameplay elements but didnt take the intangible elements that make these fun.

like for example you have these long levels where you need to find shortcuts and stuff, but the areas in nioh are dull, not atmospheric, and not fun to explore, so this just felt like busy work. same for stuff like enemies, where the difficulty and mechanics are there, but nioh was loaded with enemy types that just weren't cool looking or fun to fight (like those fucking wheel guys).

and so on and so on. the more i played of Nioh the more I realized WHY i liked dark souls

Balance may well be an issue too, as the blood drain weapons seem to be a superior option to the standard ones. That said, I'm sure it'll have fans, and make for a decent budget purchase for fans of that type of game.

It looks like the God Eater of Monster Hunter. Blatantly inspired by but also doing its own thing completely with an anime style and story (which I dig, I'm a weeb).

The CAC is fairly robust from what was shown on stage at... TGS I think it was. You change not just the physical appearance of the characters, but most of their clothing and visual accessories. The only thing you couldn't do was add options that would interfere with the 'blood veil', the transforming overcoat that controls blood drain attacks(claw, dual wolves, scorpion tail, etc).

The devs also couldn't resist showing a 'bust slider' functionality that was 'hidden' within the normal body size slider for female characters... :P

I played this game at NYCC. It was really fun but the controls aren't as responsive as you'd hope. There's a slight delay and it's especially noticeable when you roll. Still gonna get it though.

It's one of the 'blood veil' weapons. Basically a transforming overcoat that drinks blood and feeds it to the character, through that mask apparatus that appears on their faces. Besides the scorpion tail there's a claw and two arms with wolves on the end.
