The vast majority of Canadians favours a TOTAL BAN on GUNS in Urban Areas as 70% of Canadians agreed with the statement "I think that there should be a strict ban on guns in urban aeras"

Support was highest in Quebec and lowest in Country Bumpkin Alberta.

The Liberals are working on a legislation to follow through on a campaign promise to tighten up restriction on guns and though they don't plan to put a total ban on guns, there is some legislation to make it harder to obtain one.

But with widespread support to ban firearms in a country where gun violence isn't as problematic as down south, there has been increases to gun violence in some urban areas.

Statistics showed that in 2016 for the first time sicne 2012 that shootings were the most common method of murder in Canada. 587 people took their own lives with the use of a gun in 2014, up from 544.

A standard response as to why the government doesn't enforce a crackdown on guns is politics and that urban Canadians view it differently than rural ones.

The gun debate raged on when in 2011, 2 socialist NDP were disciplined after they voted in favour of the Conservatives repeal of the gun registry..

86% of Liberals, 75% of NDP and 56% of Conservatives favour a total ban on guns.

There is already an enhanced background check for anyone seeking to buy a gun and prospective buyers must show a license. People who sell guns must be required to keep an inventory of stock and sales.

The Liberals may have reason to push an anti-gun agenda as they are STILL riding high in the polls after making major campaign follow throughs including legalization of Marijuana. They are sitting at 40% support compared to 31% for Conservatives and 16% for NDP.

If the US government asked for a vote on "Ban all guns, yes or no." I'd vote yes. If no won, I would respect that. I don't care about gun legislation as long as it reflects the popular vote.

Luckily I don't live in a country like that, meaning nobody needs a gun and everyone is more safe.

As someone in Canada who is very against the grain culturally, Id try out America if it was economically viable. Canada could never ban all firearms though, 90% of the country is like Alaska and its a necessity to have a rifle or shotgun in remote areas.

I think gun control is necessary in terms of limiting their access to certain people and whats legal for civilian use, just like owning a motor vehicle. Conceal and carry, assault weapons, etc., are overkill, IMO. Stricter rules, not total removal. What works in one country wont always work in another. The only way youd make it safe for average citizens in America (because of criminals still having guns) would be to implement a policy of martial law where anyone who didnt surrender their weapons was killed on the spot. Its so out of control nothing else would work, and most people would not be happy with that...

Canadas healthcare sounds better on paper, but is a mess. You still have to spend money and the system is clogged with people overusing it because they can. The tax rate is also insane because of this, but the government doesnt lock up bums in rehab or mental health facilities, it funnels much of it into third-world endeavours, forgetting Canada hasnt been relevant since WWII, taking a beach on D-Day then liberating much of the Netherlands. It was all downhill from there... From a collapsing military to SJWs taking over.

Reasonable restrictions on guns make sense, being stricter in urban areas vs rural also makes sense.

It sounds to me like you're maybe seeing things from a "grass is always greener" perspective, if you are Canadian. I've lived in both the USA and Canada (currently live in Canada) and I have to say, almost EVERYTHING about everyday life for the average person is far superior up here. Infrastructure? It's not even close, the US's is crumbling everywhere, whereas Canada is actually investing in, and improving its infrastructure.

Healthcare? Unless you're top 0.1% in the US, Canada's system is far superior in my experience. My wait times have been shorter and service has been better for EVERYTHING healthcare related since moving to Canada. And my local hospital is ranked as one of the WORST in Ontario.

Wages? Canada's minimum wage is actually almost livable. Good fucking luck surviving on $7.25 an hour in the US unless you share a shithole with like 9 other roommates and eat ramen for life. Crime? There was more crime in the tiny ass town I grew up in than there is where I live now. And I live in a large suburban area near Toronto. Violence? It's pretty fucking obvious who wins there.

Seriously, I used to be extremely ignorant regarding Canada before I ended up moving here. I used to think "oh, they're just that communist ice cold shithole filled with sissies and bad ideas. No one is better than 'Murica, rah!" You don't realize how stupid that makes you look until you look at from an outside perspective.

I also feel like Canadians like you (who I know some) focus on the negatives and make them seem way worse than they are, when you really don't realize how shitty it is nowadays in most areas of the US.
