In just the five years between 2010 and 2015, the number of U.S. teens who felt useless and joyless classic symptoms of depression surged 33 percent in large national surveys. Teen suicide attempts increased 23 percent. Even more troubling, the number of 13- to 18-year-olds who committed suicide jumped 31 percent.

In a new paper published in Clinical Psychological Science, my colleagues and I found that the increases in depression, suicide attempts and suicide appeared among teens from every background more privileged and less privileged, across all races and ethnicities and in every region of the country. All told, our analysis found that the generation of teens I call iGen those born after 1995 is much more likely to experience mental health issues than their millennial predecessors.

Its no secret that every generation coddles their own even worse than the one before it. I have coffee every morning next to a group of ski racers who are all 8-17 years old. They know nothing about the real world because their rich dipshit parents keep them out of public school to train. They cant hold a conversation. They cant even take a compliment without developing aspergers.

A common phrase from them I hear daily: Is anybody going to school today?

Their weak parents let them choose.

Am I wrong? If they're too useless to get a job, get a career, develop meaningful relationships and develop a useful skill they're really are weak and the weak are just worthless trash in the world that exists. They're gonna die because that's all they'll be able to do, question is if they'll just roll over into an already empty grave or if they'll go nuts and take people with them.

Meh, people have complained about the next generation since the dawn of time. I'm sure some have a harder time than others but in the end we're all human and since we're descendants from previous generations we're very much alike.

The world will be just fine and so will the newer generations, regardless of the older ones grumbling and complaining about them.

"but it's different this time I swear!". Yeah, that's what previous generations said too.

I wouldn't really describe that as being weak.

I think the biggest difference with Gen Z is they've grown up entirely in the social media/smartphone era, and there is a severe lack of in-person human contact and interaction. That is one of the most basic human needs that cannot be substituted for with any number of screens and apps. This problem is not going to get any better until we find a way to foster real human connections again.
