i'm pretty sure that hotdogbutts grew up in an environment where the black kids didn't care if you were black or not when you said the word. if his black friends had actually told him 'you can't say that' then it would be very different

and tbh, i have seen plenty of non-black kids calling each other that word too

i've grown up in an environment where it wasn't normal to call each other the word, and literally my first exposure to it was highly stigmatized

if your main exposure to the word as a kid is having your friends refer to each other, and you, using it, then you probably have a different conception of it

Which is exactly how I grew up (lots of nationalities cool with each other). Being an adult and watching white people playing thought police with language is silly when I've met almost no black people who care.

It's probably a really interesting social experiment if someone felt like going back and figuring out where white liberal guilt comes from. They're always the ones pushing this stuff.
