Pretty much anything can be viewed "artistically." I find that people do this more often with "strange" games that venture into oddball territory visually, independent of whether that thing is actually good or not (visually or otherwise).

I put games in the same category as written work (books, comics, manga, etc).
You've got your pulp, dime a dozen novels, your decent works, your literature, and everything inbetween and around it. Video games are exactly the same. I'd say visual art is the same as well, just that very, very few people have been able to tap into the pulp fiction level very well, and that the form itself tends to be more full of itself. --- "Evil is what you make of it. Sure, there are artistic elements in games. Music, character design, story, etc. But I don't worry too much about whether games are art and, yeah, I agree some of the people that want to push the whole "games are art" thing are a but insufferable. They seem to have a lot of overlap with the "games need to grow up" crowd, which I really find annoying.

games can be art but people try too hard to get games recognized as a "serious" medium so they push derivative shit like spec ops as art when there are better examples like silent hill 2 or shadow of the colossus
