Every region has their own native tone and general feature set. His comment is particularly appropriate when you consider how you can be more familiar with one ethnic group's feature set but not another (i.e. he recognises the French features but not the features of wherever her dark skin came from.)

I live in a famously multicultural society. It's way harder than you seem to think it is especially given that the various ethnic groups of Europe, especially Western Europe, have been intermixing for a long time, sometimes as long as thousands of years. And this is of course ignoring that the girl is at least half black which further blurs her European features.

Overlooking the implicit racism in the claim that all white people look alike, there are certainly heritable traits associated with one ethnicity vs another. Given that French is a larger grouping, you don't really need that keen of an eye. In general, colonization in the Carib means that there are a lot of French-black mixed-race girls and, from seeing many of them on tv, film, etc, I see a certain resemblance. I would be curious to know who she is, though.

You need to get your brain scanned for irregularities if you believe you can tell the difference between white Frenchmen and white Germans with any level of accuracy because you can't. The only thing I'll grant you is that there seems to be a lot more olive skinned ethnic French (likely because of being on the Mediterranean coast so that might be more obvious) but in the pale skinned French? No way.


About 3/4 of my family lines come from France, though. It'd be pretty easy for me to test. I'd bet good money most people don't guess "French" on their first try. Also I never said all white people look alike when the proportions are close. It's just that celto-germanics all look alike. You won't hear me say slavs look like Brits or Sicilians look like Swedes.
