An Afro-Latina journalist’s interview with the leader of a KKK group that marched in Charlottesville, Virginia, last weekend devolved into racial epithets and violent threats.

The journalist said the conversation left her fearing for her safety.

At first, Ilia Calderón — a nightly newscast anchor with Univision — watched local Ku Klux Klan leader Chris Baker conduct a meeting of white supremacists on his North Carolina property.

Participants dressed up in robes and marched around with flaming torches, according to Raw Story.

Then Calderón sat down with Baker, who almost immediately attacked the journalist.

“To me you are a (racial slur)That’s it,” said Baker, a grand wizard of the Loyal White Knights, a KKK chapter in Yanceyville, North Carolina.

This is why we publicly shame them. They don't WANT to be made to understand how dangerous and hateful they are. They're fully aware of what they're doing, and it's not on minorities to educate them.

That is done through conversation and debate. Even if they themselves are not converted, which many will be, everyone else will see them for what they are. That's why you have bipartisan condemnation of their ideology.

Are you serious right Now? I am obviously talking about the fact that violence against white supremacists won't be what gets you to your goal. The civil rights movement wasn't won by violence against blacks. Do you understand words?

What won It, though violence was involved, was civil discourse through legal and political avenues to make a meaningful and lasting change, which is hopefully your goal here.

In your example, them being peaceful was the key. They weren't violent in retaliation. I am not saying dialogue and conversation are going to make them not racists, like your straw man suggests. I am saying that through dialogue, those that can be converted, great, but those that can't become more and more exposed through that dialogue until the system stamps it out.

The whole country is against these people. Using violence against them adds to the problem.
