We actually do have fairly strict control on using cars, including licensing of the vehicles and the drivers.

But they're not enough. It needs to be stricter!

Are they? Cause so far they're far safer than even the safest driving demographic.

I mean, people are far more prone to 'bugs' than programming.

It not the 'car' that harm people, it's the 'people' who drives them...if that is the case we should ban:

- Knives
- Gas
- Certain Foods
- Cigs
- Prescription Drugs

This is a great point to be made here, but I trust myself more than my car. If something really weird happens on the road-- an unaccounted for freak circumstance-- when it all boils down to it, human discretion may just prevail over a dictionary of algorithms. It really depends.

Maybe I'd feel differently if each and every car, road, and stop light were all programmed the same and talked to one another like nodes as opposed to cars being developed to react to their environment. Being in IT, I see computer systems in my own company have some kind of hardware malfunction every week. There is just no way to test something to that degree 100% without casualties.

Call me a skeptic if you'd like. Hell, even a pessimist. I prefer "realist."

Stupid people... stupid people fucking everywhere. I'd admit that statistically and generally speaking, self-driving cars would probably reduce the number of accidents, but I would still prefer to drive myself.

what if the car decides hitting a dog is better than swerving and causing an accident where people would only get hurt?

what if the car decides that the option with the fewest injuries is one that hurts the driver?

Or maybe the car could I dunno... STOP?! Stopping and slowing down are difficult for human drivers, but I would imagine a robo-car could figure out the brakes and when is a good time pretty well.

Of course I'll be out of a job once the AI is perfected and wide spread, but oh well. I'll find something else to do.

2. unlikely, people wouldn't buy cars with the self-preservation turned too low
