Fucking

God

It's nearly 5am, the show has been over nearly 2 hours, and my heart is still beating so fast. That last battle was a serious adrenaline rush. There's something insanely surreal about Jaime trying to rush Daenerys with a spear. Like I expect to see Dany and Cersei share a scene at some point but...I dunno

I am so pissed off I had a long post typed up and the topic got closed.

Anyway, what a fantastic episode, even from someone that hates Daenarys.

The sheer terror when Drogon comes over the horizon was incredible. I felt it.

I got up out of my chair and shouted YES! YES! when Bronn tagged Drogon with the scorpion bolt.

And I was right there with Tyrion shouting at Jaime to run away.

Everything about that was amazing.

I just watched it on YouTube. The guy called the battle the "Lutrayan Battle" or something? I don't know if that's a historical reference or a part of Westeros I don't know. Or I just misheard.

There's zero question that this was a more exciting and overall better battle than Battle of the Bastards. There was no deus ex machina at the end, and the favored army stomped the underdogs. But it was still visceral and thrilling thanks to the drama of the scorpion, the visual feast that really conveyed the horror of the situation, the characters involved on both sides, and the novelty of a fucking dragon.

My favorite moment of the battle was probably the Dothraki bursting through the wall of flame and running over utterly burned corpses. Fire is not a nice way to go.

Also - this still feels like a ridiculous plothole to me, but Jaime mentions that Highgarden is nearly impossible to hold. Now it makes absolutely zero sense for a stronghold of the Wardens of the South to be a bad fortress, but... if it were, then that at least kind of would justify the bullshit lack of siege from last episode.

i mean it was 20 minutes that wasn't built up over literally the course of an entire season so no it wasn't blackwater. close though.

i might put it over hardhome.

You don't actually have to worry about it! I'm reading on Facebook that apparently this battle took place quite close to the east coast, at Blackwater Rush. Which means all Dany had to do would be cross Blackwater Bay (while the Royal Navy is still on the west side of the continent), then march a very short distance inland.

Amazing episode. Amazing battle. Not the best battle (Hardhome and Battle of the Bastards are tied; Blackwater is #4 IMO) but it didn't have to be. It was sudden, you could feel the dread, and to see that Field of Fire was phenomenal.

Seabass and I called it, I think, if I remember correctly? Well anyway, it was more spectacular than I'd dared to hope.

Yeah this is the one time travel time isn't really important. Dragonstone and KL/Blackwater are quite close. Teleports aren't really an issue here.

Trying to picture the map in my head though the only weird thing is that I think Daenerys would have to more or less pass KL to reach Jaime's group if they're marching from Highgarden. Nothing wrong with it, per se, just weird to think they land and just bypass KL/not get noticed.

Like, he literally fled from battle with the gold? Because he was manning those lines. The last time I remember seeing him for sure he was telling the Lannister-Tarly forces to stand strong against the Dothraki charge.

Tycho Nestoris really emphasizes 'when we get paid.' Kinda suspect that maybe it doesn't get to KL?

Get fucking hype.

That also means that Cleganebowl might be 7x06/7x07 if The Hound can teleport from the North to KL.

IIRC, Tarly says most of the gold has made it to KL and what we see is the "tail" of the formation. If true, then KL probably got the gold and merely lost the grain/supplies. Tarly himself was at the tail with everyone else with a name.

BTW, didn't see this comment - but did anyone notice that Cersei mentions the Golden Company? What a fucking boss!

Was Drogon the only dragon in that battle? I have a hard time telling them apart. There were a few shots where I didn't see Dany on top of the dragon pictured in frame. But I suppose if there were more than one, that they'd show up on frame at the same time, right?

They can't.

The only borderline plausible explanation I've seen for Jaime even surviving is that Bronn was unarmored. Not sure I buy he can drag a sinking Armored Jaime out of that before he drowns. But no way they survive and escape.

if they do this becomes retroactively the worst episode of the season

The only end of Jaime's arc that will give me satisfaction is having him holding the sister he loved and just murdered in his arms as he weeps.

Jaime Lannister's entire retribution arc can only end in tragedy for him. That's the point.

I was going to be livid if Dany's stupid fucking dragon burned him to cinders before we got to see it.

it's flimsy, but littlefinger did benefit - he was able to mobilize the vale, and now while he's in the weakest political position, he controls the largest army in winterfell.

but yeah, he miserably misread the damage he would do to his relationship with sansa, and he couldn't have predicted two more enemies arriving in arya and bran.
