Am I in the wrong (read below!!!)

So recently, I've had days where all I want to do is stay in my room. I'll do my chores, maybe get coffee, then I'll go back to my room. Some of those days I don't even eat (meaning breakfast and dinner; I'll eat stuff like fruits and snacks etc). My step-dad often adds some little.. idk how to describe it other than 'slick' stuff in his sentences. He'll be like "you planning on staying in your room all day?" and stuff of that nature. I'll often come out and entertain my little brother, 9, and little sister, 4 (I, myself, have just turned 15 in July). Some days I just want to stay in my room.

Am I in the wrong for wanting to just be alone in my own silent and comfortable environment? I've always been pretty introverted so it's shouldn't be like a new thing. Or is it something that just happens to everyone at my age?

Your behavior is normal for a 15 year old, but your dad isn't being a douche for trying to encourage you to spread your wings a bit. He's just looking out for ya.

FYI I was (and am still to an extent) a nerdy introvert. In hindsight, I do wish I spent more time as a teen outside or mixing it up.

Take your time to be you, but humor your stepdad and mix it up for a bit here and there. You might surprise yourself.

both normal. theyre just worried, because the less you say, the more you could potentially be hiding. but as you grow, youll realize thats everyone for everything, not just parents.

take solace in the idea that they care, instead of not. one thing that could help would be to reinforce to them once in a while that everything is ok and that youre ok. thats all they want to know.

It's common for your age. Your dad probably doesn't want you to become withdrawn so maybe cut him some slack. He's probably just worried about you, especially if he's noticed that you're not eating right.

Yes and no. No harm in wanting privacy once in a while, but you need to be productive too, go to school, go to work, interact with people, that kind of thing.

no that's all normal. i been like that since my teenage years. i liked to just be alone somedays and just game or watch tv and stuff. even as i get older i still have days like that. somedays you just don't want someone else annoying you.

my parents used to get on me a lot about being in my room a lot and i turned out fine.

I understand. My mom and step-dad often joke that they think I'm depressed, but I think they believe it to a certain extent. I'm just not a talkative person. I also don't like to show emotion as opposed to everyone else in my house. I do tend to internalize things but I'm FAR from depressed.

Reminds me of my parents

Sometimes I try to do things and it just doesn't work out the way I want it to
I get real frustrated and I try hard to do it and I take my time and it doesn't work out the way I want it to
It's like I concentrate real hard and it doesn't work out
Everything I do and everything I try never turns out
It's like I need time to figure these things out
But there's always someone there going

Hey Mike:
You know we've been noticing you've been having a lot of problems lately
You know, maybe you should get away and maybe you should talk about it, maybe you'll feel a lot better

And I'm all like:
Oh nah it's ok you know I'll figure it out, just leave me alone I'll figure it out
You know I'm just working on it by myself

And they go:
Well you know if you want to talk about it I'll be here you know and you'll probably feel a lot better if you talk about it
So why don't you talk about it?

And I go:
No I don't want to I'm okay, I'll figure it out myself
But they just keep bugging me and they just keep bugging me, and it builds up inside

So you're gonna be institutionalized
You'll come out brainwashed with bloodshot eyes
You won't have anyting to say
They'll brainwash you until you see their way

I'm not crazy - Institutionalized
You're the one that's crazy - Institutionalized
You're driving me crazy - Institutionalized
They stuck me in an institution,
Said it was the only solution,
to give me the needed professional help
to protect me from the enemy - Myself

I was in my room and I was just like staring at the wall thinking about everything
But then again I was thinking about nothing
And then my mom came in and I didn't even know she was there
She called my name and I didn't hear her and then she started screaming: MIKE! MIKE!
And I go:
What, what's the matter?
She goes:
What's the matter with you?
I go:
There's nothing wrong mom
She's all:
Don't tell me that, you're on drugs!
I go:
No mom I'm not on drugs I'm okay, I was just thinking you know, why don't you get me a Pepsi
She goes:
NO you're on drugs!
I go:
Mom I'm okay, I'm just thinking
She goes:
No you're not thinking, you're on drugs! Normal people don't be acting that way!
I go:
Mom just get me a Pepsi, please
All I want is a Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me
All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi, and she wouldn't give it to me
Just a Pepsi

They give you a white shirt with long sleeves
Tied around you're back, you're treated like thieves
Drug you up because they're lazy
It's too much work to help a crazy

I was sitting in my room when my mom and my dad came in and they pulled up a chair and they sat down
They go:
Mike, we need to talk to you
And I go:
Okay what's the matter?
They go:
Me and your mom have been noticing lately that you've been having a lot of problems
And you've been going off for no reason and we're afraid you're going to hurt somebody
And we're afraid you're going to hurt yourself
So we decided that it would be in you're best interest if we put you somewhere
Where you could get the help that you need
And I go:
Wait, what are you talking about, WE decided!?
MY best interests?! How do you know what MY best interest is?
How can you say what MY best interest is? What are you trying to say, I'M crazy?
When I went to YOUR schools, I went to YOUR churches
I went to YOUR institutional learning facilities?! So how can you say I'M crazy?

They say they're gonna fix my brain
Alleviate my suffering and my pain
But by the time they fix my head
Mentally I'll be dead

Doesn't matter, I'll probably get hit by a car anyways

Honestly if I were them I would be really worried. Stay in your room and don't eat? Those are huge red flags for a parent.

Its nice being comfortable but being uncomfortable and growing as a person is way way way more important

Yeah, sounds like it could be depression. Lack of appetite, lack of motivation, lack of energy, lack of desire to do pretty much anything other than loaf around...

Not saying it definitely is, but it's definitely something you might want to look into. I was a lot like that when I was younger and I didn't get help until I was 25. I wish to god I'd done it sooner. :-/

That's good then. Just listen to everyone else and understand that your step-dad just wants to see you more active, nobody is really wrong here. It's more they're concerned about you since you're showing some signs of depression. I can't diagnose you, but if you sleep fine and you don't believe that you're depressed, you're probably okay. Just know that it wouldn't appear that way to others.

What you are doing is normal but may not be the best thing for you.

Odds are when you are 40 you won't miss having not spent time in your room in isolation. If you let this become a habit, you probably will regret it.
