How do you tell an extroverted CS major from an introverted CS major.

When you talk to the extrovert, they stare at your shoes instead of their own.

I think my sophomore year of high school I took algebra two. That's the same level course required for your math credit I believe. Although it might be geometry which was my freshmen year of high school. I can't imagine what a degree is worth if they're saying the people they're graduating are too dumb to pass a high school math class.

Since when is business a liberal major? I majored in accounting which was in the business school. Took a bunch of other business classes because all majors in the business college are required to take other business courses as well. Stuff like Econ and Finance and ISDS had many math and statistics concepts intertwined. May not be considered STEM in the technical since but it's not far off and there's definitely skills taught there relevant to future jobs

Anything that isn't taken by a conservatroll is a liberal arts degree.

My school also has one of the best programs in the US for my degree, so yeah.

I mean, don't most Republicans think of themselves as having a superior grasp of the economy and business sense? You'd think degrees in business related fields would be something they'd applaud, but here they are making fun of you for going into business instead of CS. Lol

They're just getting rid of the remedial classes. They still require that admitted students take 3 years of math in high school (so all admitted students must have already taken Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II). Obviously, California's extensive CC system can take care of remedial math classes for students who need them.

As far as everyone complaining about taking non-STEM classes when they were in college, you had a choice of which college to attend when you applied for schools. Not all colleges require taking "liberal" classes, and many colleges give you a choice of which GE class to take. You can also choose the professor, too, which should be the most important factor in the decision of which classes you take.

This post said pretty much everything I wanted to say. Colleges are up-front about their graduation requirements; it's not like it's some surprise they spring on you after you get there. If you don't want a liberal education (emphasis on the lowercase "L") then simply don't apply to colleges with extensive general ed requirements.

As for math education,

Like I saw my little cousin's common core math homework. I can't remember the exact numbers, but let's just say it was 27+36.

They had illustrations to choose from and everything. Essentially trying to show you to add up the tens in your head. Like "two tens plus three tens plus 7 ones plus 6 ones"

Or "add three to the 27 and subtract three from the 36 so it's 30+33 and easier to do in your head."

Like I'll never understand it. We've been behind in these subjects for so long and we try to take a different approach and suddenly it's wrong because "that's now how we did it". Like you think we're going to catch up to other countries by doing the same thing that was making us lag behind? FFS

Is that really what common core is? I wrote it off because I saw my little cousins and the explanation made no sense to me but making it 30+33 is how I've always done math in my head.
