But computer science students will still have to take a philosophy or gender studies course to graduate, just as long as it's something that propagates leftist indoctrination.

This isn't a thing.

And I can see why intermediate algebra wouldn't necessarily be useful to people outside STEM disciplines who otherwise have a grasp of everyday math.

Yes it absolutely IS a thing

As a physics major I have course requirements for humanities, sociology, "international", and "multicultural" classes. I have to take this bullshit.

But yeah tell us more about how STEM majors need an Intro to Gay Plays class while Liberal Arts majors don't need to know any math beyond basic algebra.

No. But I'm a 100 percent true that some "facts" in our history books are completely false. Literally no internet and video recording devices for most of human history. Some mother fucker just recorded what he wanted.

At Cal State, about 40% of freshmen each year are considered not ready for college-level work and required to take remedial classes that do not count toward their degrees.

What a hilarious statistic. I like how the response to admitting such a high percentage of kids that are woefully under prepared is to get rid of the remedial class to push them through anyways.

Maybe don't admit so many unprepared students? I'm glad they aren't getting rid of the math requirement in general though. Wish the original article was more clear on that part, but whatever. :^)

How about just rejecting applicants that are simply not even college-ready to start with instead of dumbing down requirements?

just look at any state's common core state standards. Common core focuses much, much more on teaching number sense than your old "traditional"(is that what it is called?) way. Which falls in line more with Chinese, Japanese, and other countriess math education.

It's not perfect (far from it) but it's closer than the old way

Math in general is still a requirement and I'd say world history is far more useful across all disciplines than intermediate algebra.

Fuck history. It's impossible for it to be objective. People literally write what they want you to think. I doubt history is even accurate all the time. Math and Science are the purest disciplines. You actually have to practice to get good. History you literally just sit there and listen.

Since when is business a liberal major? I majored in accounting which was in the business school. Took a bunch of other business classes because all majors in the business college are required to take other business courses as well. Stuff like Econ and Finance and ISDS had many math and statistics concepts intertwined. May not be considered STEM in the technical since but it's not far off and there's definitely skills taught there relevant to future jobs

Trade school ftw. I only had 6 hours of classes a week for 5 years, and it only cost me a grand total of $3,000 without grants. I was enrolled at St Vincent but backed out when I got accepted into the trade school (it was really hard to get into since it's tied into a Union and I don't have any relatives in my Union). Starting salary was 70k+ with guaranteed work after I graduated and I live in an area where you can buy a pretty nice house for that much money.

Not for everybody but I'm really happy with my decision. I would like to go to college some day though as a backup plan in case I get injured and become disabled/unable to keep doing my job.

They're just getting rid of the remedial classes. They still require that admitted students take 3 years of math in high school (so all admitted students must have already taken Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II). Obviously, California's extensive CC system can take care of remedial math classes for students who need them.

As far as everyone complaining about taking non-STEM classes when they were in college, you had a choice of which college to attend when you applied for schools. Not all colleges require taking "liberal" classes, and many colleges give you a choice of which GE class to take. You can also choose the professor, too, which should be the most important factor in the decision of which classes you take.

Be sure to transition to management/supervisor positions when you can. Jobs with extensive labor can take a huge toll on the body, especially when you get older.
