It's not overrated, but it doesn't hold up as well as people want to think either.

Also, as much as people rip on SM3 for having embarrassing moments of "humor" SM2 has em as well. Not defending SM3, but it's not like it was that far off from what came before.

I'm pretty sure it was generally considered the best comic book movie until the Dark Knight came out.

I will say it parts of it didn't age well, like the CGI, but I think it's still great. The people on the train keeping his secret is unbelievable sure, especially those kids. And the fact that they found his mask always infuriated me, because that's just damn impossible.

IDC the train was sequence better than almost anything in modern movies. Plus Raimi actually did the character of Spider-man right.

Not "do you bleed" murdering Batman" or mopey Superman that barely saves people

The biggest problem with all three of those films is the cheesy romance drama. It's as bad as Anakin and Padme's bullshit at points. 3 would've been as good as the first two if not for that and the Uncle Ben retcon.

It's one of the best super hero movies ever.

Well instead of going through the entire catalog I'll just name 5 of my favourite action scenes. In no particular order

1) You gotta give it up to the Airport scene in Civil War. Every second that transpires is something fucking amazing, funny, an interesting bit of character interaction or just a wonderful spectacle to behold. There's so much going on and yet it works so goddamn well. The Russo Bros are absolute masterminds with how much they were able to pack into this movie.

2) It would be cheating to say the entire battle for New York in Avengers. So I'm going to narrow it down to the best minute of action, dare I say in any movie ever. I honestly love this sequence so much

Here's the link here. It brilliantly interweaves all the Avengers together in this amazing sequence that takes you through the city. From the initial shot of Black Widow taking over the chariot, sliding into Iron Man controlling the skies, swooping in to help cap down on ground level. Then we follow Iron Man back up to the skies to see Clint on top of a Skyskraper, right in his wheelhouse sniping dudes at the top of the city. Then he takes out a chariot that crashes into one of serpent things that happens to have Thor and Hulk riding on it, making mincemeat of some Chitauri. Hulk rips off one of the scales of the serpent, and Thor smashes that fucking thing right into the brain of the beast. Bringing it right down into Grand Central Station. I had the biggest fucking grin when I seen this scene transpire in theatres, and I still love it to this day.

3) Honorable mention to the brief chase sequence through the office from Captain America Winter Soldier

Just the fucking speed and power they managed to capture from Cap is unreal. Such a great little scene

However my choice is the the highway fight scene later on in the movie.

You can just feel the expertise of the Winter Soldier on display here. They give such weight to the character and make him feel like an ultimate badass. When he switches between 3 different firearms and then a knife in 10 seconds. And let's talk about that fucking little knife dance there because it never gets old every time I see it. Sebastian Stan absolutely fucking nails the roll

4) Safety spoilers for Dr. Strange Ahead


The whole end fight with the Eye of Agamotto. I mean in a movie with absolutely breathtaking visual design, every scene where they rip apart reality is worth mentioning. But I particularly love the end scene. First you have Dr. Strange reversing the destruction of Hong Kong with the time stone, and THEN you set the fight in that. It's the total opposite of every other fight scene where the destruction and mayhem has already happened and the fight is happening while it all reverses.

But that's not the most creative part. The best part is the final confrontation with Dormammu. The protagonist goes up against a force so powerful he has absolutely zero chance of winning. So he outsmarts it by losing forever until it concedes. I fucking love this scene.


5) Hulk Buster Scene in AoU. There has been so many amazing moments brought to life straight form the comics, but this is one of my favourite. In case you forgot how much of a menace the Hulk is this movie reminds you quick. The scene is so visceral, so powerful. And I just love the idea of having this contingency in place, so well thought out that it comes with replacement parts.

SM2 has always been a mixed bag for me.

It was pretty hit-or-miss from scene to scene. I liked it overall but it had some serious cheese. I remember walking out of the theater talking about what was cool, what was funny, and what just made us groan inside.

It's better than 1 or 3.
