Servers are overworkered and don't get paid enough.

Paid enough by our employers? Yeah we're not. But at the end of the night and we collect all our tips with our actual wages just being lagniappe? Lmao. At that point we're overpaid. And I'm goddamn loving it, Kinda the reason I went into it. But when I get stiffed I'm not going to go to social media like a little bitch and shame that person. It just happens sometimes. Yeah when I get the ticket and I see I made basically nothing from it, it sucks.

But then I get a ticket that tips $30 for a $70 ticket. How many servers do you see going online to post about their insane tips they get? No, it's just the scumbags they have and they need to shame them so it doesn't happen again. It's nothing but entitlement and a shitty attitude when servers do these kinds of things.

If she doesn't like how people tip, she could easily go work at another restaurant. Plus, I find it funny how people like her get butthurt over a few people being cheap. It would be one thing if EVERYBODY tipped her that much, but it usually seems to be a select few that will end up tipping less than a certain "accepted" percentage.

I do think that most waiters and waitresses need to be educated and given a dose of reality.

I generally always tip just above 20%. It's an expected cost to eating at a restaurant, just like taxes. People who don't are basically robbing the service, and they're stupid assholes

Tips are not like taxes. One is optional. Now a gratuity, that is like a service tax. You literally don't understand what a tip is. (Hint - you aren't entitled to a tip).

How are they 'robbing the service'? If people didn't come in to eat, the server wouldn't have a job. Less people eating means less serving shifts. Attitudes like yours with these expectations are why restaurants fail. Alienating customers because you think they're cheap. Wow

And they're 'stupid assholes' . Hey man, check this out. After reading your post, you come off as very stupid, and entitled. I can just picture you with various piercings proly, looking eternally bored, bitching to some chick that you only got 5$ on 40, mumbling as you walk away from tables. A spoiled mess

I always tip no matter what. In fact, it's part of my method.

Behold:

The S.H.I.N.O.B.I. Method

My method makes the assumption that you have already met a woman and have her number, which I feel is the easy part because it can just be a girl you matched with through online dating or met in a group project or something. Anyway:

1. S - Send Vague Text Responses
Girls eat this shit up. Don't give her any definite responses or make her feel like she's worth any more time than a text message. If you are too much of a "nice guy" then normally the girl gets turned off, but you can't be a dick either. You need to be aloof; this girl KNOWS she can pull a thousand guys on Tinder in fifteen minutes, but if you aren't acting thirsty it will instantly elevate you above them.

2. H - Have Her Meet You For Dinner at Olive Garden
Olive Garden is the perfect casual dining experience. It is nice enough that it will feel like an actual date, but not too nice that your date is intimidated. It also offers ample parking. Make sure that you drive separately; this is important later on.

3. I - Indicate That You Would Like a Round of Breadsticks for the Table
As soon as the waitress attends to your table, order a round of Breadsticks. The Breadsticks are not only free, but they are unlimited, and that will be key here. As many of you know, I am a huge Amiibo collector, so I find it important to let the waitress know right away that you want the Breadsticks, as there will not be any wasted time.

4. N - Never Let the Waitress See You Taking Breadsticks Out of the Restaurant
Once your have received your basket of Breadsticks, you may empty them all out into your jacket pockets, but as this is uncomfortable, you will want to make sure you take trips to your car periodically to unload. This is where it becomes key that you drove to the restaurant separately. Make sure the wait staff does not see you leaving to unload either, or they will kick you out (has happened to me on rare occasions).

5. O - Order More Breadsticks
As soon as the waitress comes back, say "nummy nummy, breadsticks in me tummy, yummy yummy, more more!" or something to that nature. The waitress will think you are a big fat fuck and likely go back to provide more, as Olive Garden provides these Breadsticks for free and the restaurants are insured for thousands anyway (so they aren't taking a financial hit from the Breastick losses).

6. B - Bring a Trash Bag to Store Breadsticks
This part is key. You can only go out to your car so many times before you begin to rouse suspicion. I like to use the "Oh, I left my dog chained outside of the restaurant, better bring him water this time!" or "Methinks I have left my child in the hot car! Daddy's coming!" However, too many trips will start to get you looks, so bring a trash bag to fill up with Breadsticks (under your table).

7. I - Immediately Leave the Restaurant After Your Bag is Full
Once the bag is full, you can no longer unload in your car, so it is time to leave. If you have done this correctly, your bill will be $0.00 and you will have a car loaded with warm, garlic and parmesan covered baked goods.

From there, you can use these Breadsticks to make sandwiches for the month. I hope this advice helps some of you CEmen, because I know dating is hard and it's sometimes nerve wracking knowing how to behave on a first date.

I mean... I'm the same... the check MUST be a solid number ending in 0 or 5. Depending on the service, will dictate how many increments I jump.

Tipping by percentage is stupid. You do the same thing for a cheap meal as an expensive one. Cooks aren't getting the tip.

This thought process baffles me. Why would someone be a tough guy because they don't tip? You don't tip because you don't tip, there isn't any reason behind it beyond that.

What is worst than non-tippers is the tippers who believe in it so religiously that if someone doesn't do it they are a scumbag and that the tipper mafia is going to go after them.

As a server myself, I agree. The reason it's a % of the bill is to allow for the tips to be in line with the cost of living, so if food prices go up, servers can make more money. But honestly, serving one huge table that has a $200 bill is actually less work than serving 5 tables that all have $40 bills. So I don't think anyone should bitch about the % once the bill starts climbing into the hundreds. You're gonna get a good tip. $15 is good.

You know what would actually work best? If they included the tip in the bill, that way the servers wouldn't complain and people wouldn't have to do any extra math while out for lunch or dinner.

I'm a server. And even I say the only people that get screwed by the tipping system is the customers.

Servers get fucked too, they just don't notice. How much do you think the average server makes a year with tips?

Tipping didn't use to be a thing. It was considered insulting in the US. Then prohibition made restaurants less profitable and they lobbied for "Tippable Wages" to be a thing...

Varies a lot depending on the restaurant. At mine though my tips alone pay for my rent and utilities, my car note and insurance, phone bill, and I still have well enough to pay for gas and groceries and going out on the town, etc. Luckily I also live in Nevada so I get an 8.50 base wage and I just direct deposit it straight into my savings because I never really need it.

But at the end of the day, the tips alone are enough to live on and have leftovers. Not to mention you often can bring home food for free or at a big discount.

Wth kind of four star restaurant do you work at? Because you clearly cannot do something like that at a Dennys.

However, if I'm picking up food, I REFUSE to tip.

Also, this one time at a restaurant the person I was with was so mad with their food he just started throwing "NO TIP!" out whenever the waitress was around. He was a jerk. Don't be him

Why are people in this herd mentality that guilt trips and shames people for not tipping, and never question the system who fucked them over in the first place? But instead you have to blame it on the customers, instead of the department of labor government that allows managers to give employees below minimum wage salary.

This mentality is as awful as people who think a religious book.. or hell the Constitution is perfect and never should be questioned.

My opinion on this is a little biased, because I work as a cook in a busy sit down restaurant. Servers are constantly complaining about their tips... acting greedy, spoiled, entitled, you name it. And yet, even on their worst night, they are still going to get paid more than me. All while sitting down reading the newspaper, doing a crossword puzzle, watching videos on their phone, taking a dozen smoke breaks, etc.

Meanwhile, if I stop working for even a minute, my boss will chime in and ask me what I'm doing. Watches everyone like a hawk, it seems like. And when it's busy, I need to hustle. I take passion in making a dish that looks as good as I can make it under the time constraints (most of the other cooks don't care about that). However, I don't get paid extra for putting more effort into making presentable food. I just do it, because that's what I would want to see as a customer. I think about how much money they are spending, and try to make them feel like I made it special just for them. Even though I will never see or talk to them. The purpose of a restaurant is to give customers a satisfying dining experience. However, sometimes it seems like its actual purpose is to save as much money as possible by being cheap. The flaw in that logic is you lose money by driving away customers with crappy food. But I digress....

However, I do tip 99% of the time, and try to give at least 15%. The problem is, I feel like I very rarely get good service. Most of the time it's mediocre. They do the bare minimum, often don't know anything about the food, and seem impatient. And I get the feeling that they have a bad attitude. Most of the time I tip because I enjoyed the food, and that's entirely because of the cook/ingredients.

In the case of more exotic restaurants, like Vietnamese pho, actual communication can be nearly impossible. But good places have awesome food and good portion sizes that cost the same amount of money as a McDonald's combo, so I will always tip for that reason alone.
