Board 8 > Let's discuss how Marvel vs Capcom Infinite can salvage its roster with good DLC

Ever since X (and later Zero) were confirmed playable characters, I got way too invested in this game, but it looks like it's gonna be SF5 2.0, what with good gameplay but terrible everything else. This is the projected roster with 5/6s of the first group of DLC:

Even though I have enough characters to make ME happy (X, Zero, Jeddah, Rocket, and if that projection is true, Dormammu and Venom), I agree that it's a stupidly week roster. What the fuck are Spencer, Arthur, Chris, and Firebrand doing back? Who the fuck wants Winter Soldier or Nova in this game? Why did they turn Thanos' cool hyper combos from the old games into boring stuff?

After the first wave of DLC, they need to do something huge to earn a lot of good will. Something like the following offered for FREE:

X-Men vs. Street Fighter pack

Wolverine
Storm
Magneto

Akuma (or Bison if Akuma turns out to be the unknown character from first group of DLC)
SF5 rep (probably Necalli)
A wildcard choice, like Ingrid

Then there also needs to be a Fantastic Four pack with Doom, Super Skrull, and Silver Surfer, they could bring back the MvC2 original characters (or at least Ruby Heart), and then a bunch of highly requested pics, like Gambit, Asura, a Power Stone character, and Squirrel Girl.

I'd be a lot more comfortable with Winter Soldier being there if they didn't bring back Spencer. Now you have two guys who's entire gimmick is a robot arm.

Spencer became an MvC legacy character just like Cap Falcon always shows up in Smash, off MvC3. Including him makes sense considering how much people loved yelling "BIONIIIIIIC AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRMMMMMM!". Do agree the roster is pretty weak tho

Problem is more the shoddy graphical style for the characters and HUD than the roster imo

Throw some DLC in to change the HUD and you've fixed half the problem.

They've said they're doing a day 1 patch to fix some visuals. HOpefully it's an improvement.

I think the characters are pretty well doomed unfortunately. You'd need to revamp the whole style to something that isn't "partying like it's 1996."

HUD I still believe can be fixed though.

Lack of ammy is a near deal breaker for me.

Definitely an "X-Men Vs. Street Fighter" themed pack is a great idea, I kinda go back and forth on whether it should be Storm or Sentinel in it though.

With how much of UMVC3 is being reused there's little reason not to go all the way and bring back every character from that game eventually. Gotta balance it out with a good number of new characters though, or people start to question why not just stick with UMVC3.

While I agree about Firebrand (I wouldn't even have had him in UMvC3), Spencer is in because A)he's a good character, and B)Combofiend who is a top-tier FGC/MvC3 player is helping work on the game. Much the same way that Sentinel, Storm & Magneto were in MvC3 because they were always on top-tier MvC2 teams(granted Sentinel was there due to it's cheapness, but...). Winter Soldier can be both a cool character if built right AND a good natural team-up with Captain America, not to mention that he's popular due to the MCU movies. You ask who wants Nova, well I could give 2 drizzling shits about Frank West or Venom, or even Phoenix Wright last game, but I know that those characters have fans of them who enjoy playing as them.

And you've had hands on experience with the game to know that Thanos is now "boring stuff"?

Will never happen. Marvel doesn't want to rep X-Men or FF characters(as much as I liked Super Skrull), or do you believe that Capcom had an roster oversight after the box office successes of both Deadpool & Logan? Gambit sucks anyway, stop living in the "EXTREME 90'S" because that was the only time that character even mattered in the comics. Besides screw Necalli & Ingrid, Capcom needs to add in more franchises than just Street Fighter, Mega Man, and a smattering of Darkstalkers. Like Power Stone, or Breath of Fire, or Tech Romancer, or Cyberbots, or Regina from Dino Crisis, or someone from Omnimusha, or Gene from Godhand, or quit with the Japan hatred & give in to the American fans of the character & give us Jon Talbain. Or like you say, even bring back Ruby Heart.

Hell, I'd even take Howard The Duck, and have him have an unlockable/DLC Donald Duck costume.

uhhh you do realize that Marvel is currently in the middle of a huge X-Men push that involves launching FIVE new team books (X-Men Blue, X-Men Gold, Astonishing X-Men, Weapon X, and Generation X) as well as 3 new solo books (Cable, Jean Grey, and Iceman). Blue and Gold are even twice-a-month books!

Also Marvel Heroes Omega launched on PS4 earlier this year, with a dozen playable X-Men characters. No FF though, you're right about that.

They aren't de-emphasizing mutants at all anymore. It's possible they still were when the licensing contracts for Infinite were being written, though. Or maybe they only want them to be DLC for financial reasons, like if Fox gets a cut of the sales for stuff with X-Men in it, they'd rather only give a cut of the $5 DLC downloads and not the $60 base game.

I specifically was talking about his hyper combos, like I said. He went from having things like sandwiching people between giant stone slabs, opening wormholes and spewing rocks, and to flinging giant flaming spheres.

Now he has generic-beam-super-but-diagonal, that weird diving aerial thing, and the obligatory cinematic level 3.

What I don't get is if they're going for the MCU audience, the only character that got a graphical change to fit their more MCU look is Hawkeye. Gamora in particular is baffling. She looks completely unrecognizable.

Then again, with the character models already looking pretty bad, trying to model based on the more realistic style of the MCU is probably asking for failure.

Wolverine was planned to be Disney Infinity through along with Goofy in a wave, but the game's future plans were canceled before he could be made.

Wolverine used to be major enough of a character that he could be used in general Marvel crossovers as a loophole around X-Men rights by having Wolverine as it's own IP but seems like they leave him out of stuff probably due to Disney bitterness.

Also why the hell isn't Loki in the game? Popular, represents MCU, has Thor 3 coming up, great moveset potential.
