16 for both. I have no sons or daughters but I have cousins, nieces, and nephews. 16 feels right.

Sayoria, I just don't want people touching my little girl :(

I'm also hyper protective of my sister, with very good reason too.(Yes. That thing you just thought of? Yup.)

Say I don't particularly care when my kids start dating, when they show the maturity and responsibility needed to handle being alone with the opposite sex they can date. Whether that's 13 or 17 is up to them.

I want a daughter as much as the next person, but refusing to allow her to date is just mean. I'd try to build up a good bond with her to trust my judgment so I could at least let her know what I think and hopefully have her respect that. Like..... I'm the kind of person who would love to be my daughter's close friend and parent. Not like strictly a forceful person, but I'd want her to ultimately be happy. I think if I could build a successful bond, everything would be great.

I mean, everyone is obviously joking. I'd let my daughter start dating at the same time as my son, but no one wants to think about letting their little girl go. Hell, my baby sister is in her 20's and I refuse to even speak of her getting married. Obviously it's going to happen and all I want is for her to be happy, but I don't have to like the idea.

I would allow chaperoned dates at any age. As in, I'll take them to a movie but I'm going in too. They can sit a couple rows down or something if they want, but that's it.

They can go out alone together either when they get their driver's license at 16, or if they have been together for a year or more.

Kids are kids. if anything i'd rather have a kid casually go up from 14-16 with one girl to get a feel of things. over here in the UK, you're probably not going to meet other people from other schools unless you knew them from primary school. by the time you get to college (High school in the US?) they'll probably have more Independence like taking the train/bus there, or eating out, that they'll have a social life outside of family/education.

I'd probably wonder who the parents are first though. I would probably make sure they're not being taken advantage of and if they are actually having a healthy approach. i don't want my kid to be some random scumbag, but i wouldn't want them to feel less of themselves. emotional blackmail just isn't a pretty thing, really.

I probably wouldn't even care if they bought their friend around if they're younger, since its obvious that they're just friends. if they were older, i'd just be concerned about how they're going about. at least get through education first, then plan later.

Growing up my mom said no dating until I'm 13, then it turned to no dating until I'm 18 AND finished high school then she honestly said to me "go travelling then maybe start dating when you're 30" >_>

Didn't matter anyway because I was an outcast so no girl liked me but since I started dating in my 20's I've figured out that I'm asexual lol. Probably would have figured this out a lot earlier if I dated as a teen.

Yeah, no. Just like I wouldn't "allow" my kid to decide when they get to come home or when to go to school, I'm deciding on when I think they're mature enough to start dating while I'm still taking care of them. Your comments are incredibly foolish and irresponsible. Especially since dating at young ages requires a lot of parental involvement in the first place.

They can date at 14 and I'll even take them places.

But no sex until they're 18 or after.

This. Also, the (your age)/2 + 7 rule breaks down and doesn't work below 14.

I'm not certainly not going to be encouraging sex before they finish school but I'll still give them all the proper material and knowledge because I can't always be around and I'd like to know they're properly protected if they go at it. I'll just hope that I raised them well enough to wait.
