They confess because they got caught and might as well explain their side. And the sting is done parallel to the show so by the time they end up at the house the police already have the evidence they need.

Not gonna lie, I did feel bad for a couple of them. I heard in some episodes, the decoy made the first move by offering sex. It's no excuse by any means, but the real way to catch a predator is by letting the guy come on his own.

Public shaming is a key part of it. I'd bet the fear of having your life humiliated like that has deterred thousands of online pedos from taking their fantasies into the real world.

I'm saying the decoys should imitate children, because that is the decoys purpose. There's no difference from the point of view of a predator between a decoy "making the first move" and an actual child "making the first move".

no i mean help them avoid prison, give them a second chance and make sure they actively get help to live better lives. prison doesn't rehabilitate them, it ruins their lives and guarantees they won't have a normal life again. and from what i understand, it doesn't stop them from doing stuff again if they get out

public shaming is a type of help. if scaring them won't help them, what will other than prison? remember, society owes them no favors. These pedos are only hurting society and themselves with their choices. Prison helps society more than rehabilitating them will, considering theres no chance of them committing the same crimes while in prison.

I think that was the case for like the first investigation. That is, cops weren't lying in wait ready to arrest when the suspect left the house.

They did provide the chat logs to authorities in the earlier investigations so although the cops weren't on site, they supposedly followed up to nab the suspects later.

Yeah, almost nobody got off scot free on that show. They even had cases where suspects were on their way to the house but chickened out and tried to turn back - cops still went after them because merely chatting the minor up was a misdemeanor. Showing up to the house was just icing.
