Fire was probably the most important.

An argument could be made for most of the basic tools (wedge, wheel, lever, incline, screw, pulley). I suppose that, due to the Industrial Revolution completely changing how humans live, an argument could also be made for the steam engine being one of the most important inventions ever. That does require fire already though.

Are we talking about actual items or cultural advancements? I'd say the greatest advancement was agriculture. Being able to grow our own food brought us out of the hunter-gatherer phase and into the phase of cities and the beginning of technology.

I would say language does not count as an invention, but that fire does. Or at least, the control of fire is an invention. It requires knowledge and technology to perform.

Meanwhile, language is a natural development of social beings. True language as we understand it is something we evolved into over time. Controlling fire is more of a specific invention. Humans had to evolve language as a skill over generations, but once one dude figured out how to set a fire, that could spread to anyone.

Most complex is probably the stuff that goes into computers, phones, etc.

Language is an invention and I feel a little silly for not giving a nod to that, since it facilitated society. And it's absolutely an artificial construct.

Well.... eh. Historically, humans had such little control over fire that they almost never made fire themselves and instead relied on some of their neighbors fire. And I'm not sure controlling fire necessarily counts an invention.

While language has evolved over time, so have boats, so have houses, so has everything else. The idea that things change as we get better with them doesn't invalidate the fact that it's an invention. And while most creatures communicate, they don't use everything close to language which is more of an artificial construct designed to express complex ideas that couldn't be conveyed via traditional communication.

did you know that back in the early 1900s i read that edison was a proponent of DC and a competitor was a proponent of AC so he set up an experiment where he electrocuted an elephant with a large amount of alternating current. I think you can find this on youtube.

Disagree. Technology/inventions are pieces of culture. Language is so incredibly rooted into culture, you don't even think about it. A human being raised without being taught language, is barely considered human, and will not create a language on it's own.
