Joking aside though, 2016 was pure cancer.

2016 gets a lot of hate, but it was the first year in several that I didn't hate. 2014 was terrible for me in every way possible. I was legitimately happy for the start of 2015 because I just wanted 2014 to be over. 2015 wasn't much better, but it set things up for 2016 to be enjoyable for me.

People will jump the gun and vote 2007, which I can respect, but the reality is that we didn't feel the full force of the Casual Revolution until Colonel Mii First launched an assault on Hardcore HQ in the Spring of '08. It's easy to point fingers to the beginning of the death knell of human civilization, but let's not forget the tragedies that followed.

I understand voting 2016 ironically, but the war is ended.

Even without the celebrity deaths and the election as a whole, the answer is still 2016. For me, it was losing two friends I had throughout middle/high school to auto accidents two months apart from one another

The first half of 2016 was dreadful for me as well. A tremendously painful physical condition manifested itself; all-the-while, I lost very nearly everything while pursuing an ill-advised romance, and almost became a father but that did not happen either. I was popping painkillers and ended up contributing to the bodily damage I suffered. I gained weight as a result, but more importantly, my inside's pretty messed-up. I went months, and numerous hospital visits in a number of states, before I even knew what I had. And that's peanuts next to the emotional damage I was enduring. It was bad. Really bad.

But I found a lot of reasons to keep going from August 2016 on. I got the operations I needed to start healing physically, and I found the support I needed to start healing spiritually.

Our two pets died within months of each other, my mother nearly died, and a very close friend died while recovering from a serious condition.

That very solidly put 2016 as worst year ever for me.

2016 took away Bowie and Prince. Outside of 2009 taking away Michael Jackson and 2014 giving us Robin Williams' suicide, can't think of two shittier deaths to have. Although I'm sure I'm missing something offhand.

Let's see...

2014:
Good:
-I bought a new car on New Year's Eve
-I bought a laptop?
-I saw California a lot because I drove through the state often? I'm really trying to be positive here

Bad:
-Moved away from home for 3 months to a job scam. During those 3 months, the following happened:
--My cousin committed suicide. I was 300 miles from my closest family members
--The job scam blew up any confidence I had because they showed me that people just make fake resumes and get jobs anyway
--My roommates would often fight with me because all I wanted was to be left alone so there was a culture clash since they were extroverts. It almost turned physical
--Severe depression and thoughts of suicide due to unemployment, feelings of rejection, loss of hope, loss of enthusiasm for life

Other stuff:
-In total, about 8 months of unemployment including fake employment ("job" was scamming employers as a "consultant" by getting hired with fake resumes)
-My best real life friend went crazy and I no longer know who she was anymore
-A suicidal online friend stopped being reachable suddenly
-Another online friend attempted suicide
-My uncle died
-My dad's marriage fell apart
-I got a legit job with a friend. He laid me off because business was poor after moving his business so he couldn't afford to pay me regularly
-I got a legit job with a company. It was fake happiness for me because it ended up falling apart in late 2014/early 2015 and damaged me in so many ways

2015:
Good:
-Got a real legit job that I still have today
-Started going to more meets with gamers I guess

Bad:
-Got told off a lot at my job because I "need to look like Justin Timberlake" and "do crossfit" and have dress codes invented and applied only to me
-Job made me work 80+ hours per week with no extra pay
-Got fired from that job
-Got into a car accident that totaled my car. I was blamed for it due to problems with the police report. I also believe the intersection was badly designed and felt vindicated when the city demolished it a month later. I was in legal and financial jeopardy over demands for over $100,000 for two years (it just got resolved).
-Mom was involved in the accident and required treatment
-Mom got diagnosed with various medical problems that were serious (unrelated to accident aside from doctors mainly seeing her because she was involved in an accident)
-6+ months of unemployment
-Fake friends fighting with me because I couldn't get a job within a month or two and therefore don't care about working
-It goes without saying I guess, but more severe depression and thoughts of suicide

I hate those years so much. I don't think I included everything because so much happened that it's hard to keep track.

Actually, I think I can probably vote 2011 here because my last real relationship ended at the beginning of it and I spent most of that year either looking for work or doing a job I despised. Life's been pretty good since then (although not to say perfect).

2009 can fuck off and die in a ditch. Shit year from start to finish, a period where I felt negative most of the time and felt like "not wanting to be on this planet anymore". Couldn't get work no matter how hard I tried and just plain felt alone

2016 was bad for the world. 2015 had a couple of bad times for me but it's when I moved to Qatar so I like it.

Brexit. There was the threat of the far-right in Europe which has now subsided. Just general political uneasiness. Horrible treatment of a lot of people too.

Also on a much lighter note it was a crappy year for media.

It was alright for me. On a personal level the worst was no doubt 2012. However I still voted 2016.

My grandma and my great aunt both died in 2015. At least, I think that was the year. It's hard to keep track.
