That's stupid and it's a big part of why this board is shit. Don't post hearsay.

Whoa. I'm gone for one day and suddenly get 25 replies to my topic?

Anyway, I wasn't expecting all the support I got in this topic. Seeing all this encouragement actually helped me feel a lot better. ^_^

Vyrulisse posted...
Perhaps as a base but there are many things you can do to change how you look if that is your wish. A style change would do wonders for superficial changes, and there are surgeries you can pursue if you have the means. Just don't give up or get down on yourself. Being honest you don't look bad, your style is not mine but that's another conversation for another day. :P

Well, like I said, there's not that much I can wear... And as far as I know, there's just facial reconstruction surgery and breast implants, right? Facial feminization would be the most important thing, if it could it make me look more feminine.

Someone I know suggested I get breast implants first and foremost, but if I don't look like a girl, I'll just look like a guy with breasts. ;_; Are there any other kinds of surgeries I'm unaware of? Or just those two?

Just try to stay positive about it.

Someone said to me just tonight: "You're more negative than the bottom of a battery." But I'll try not to give up. ^^;;

A couple things. YOu have really nice skin, and love the bedspread.

That reminds me of something that happened at work awhile ago. Me and a couple of coworkers were unloading pallets, and there's this one girl who works in the back room with me. While we were finishing up she says, "You're so lovely." I was like, "Hm?" And she was like, "You look so lovely. Your hair is so nice, and your skin is so nice." I was completely surprised by that. And I'm glad you like the bedspread too! ^^ I got it out of my love for rainbows.

And some people who were born with female parts have masculine features. Broad shoulders and all that. I don't look at you and think 'man', I think 'somewhat masculine woman' and there's a biiiiiiiiiig difference between the two. I think you're being your own worst critic here.

Hm... "masculine woman"...? Do you mean like, a woman that looks like a guy?

Patty_Fleur posted...
Do you date boys or girls?

I wouldn't mind dating boys or girls. I'm physically attracted to girls, but there can be an attraction to guys. but it's usually going to be emotional. Usually. Sometimes I can find a guy cute, but usually if I end up liking them it's because something about their personality ends up slowly winning me over. Now the only problem is finding anyone that will actually date me... ;_;

That's a nice skirt. Where did you get it? My girlfriend likes that kind of stuff.

With a better shirt, it'd look great.

That's one of the best shirts I have... I dunno what would look better. ;_; But I got it off Poshmark. It's a little thing where you can buy and sell outfits. Like eBay, but strictly clothes.

Wow TC youve really oversold your issues, you might have body dismorphia but I definitely think you look more like a woman than and guy dressing as a woman. Im surprised youre not happy with you progress, your final result should be really good. Also BJJ will thicken your hands and forearms from clinching, stick with yoga if youre worried about bulking.

Most of the truly cute and feminine ones looked like girls before they even started... But I hope you're right. ^^ And I'm already bulky, so that's good advice to know.

AugustAdoulin posted...
I like your skirt! Don't get rid of it :o I'm not trans, but I work with a lot of women, and maybe you could try using a body shaper or something like? Spanx o r a corset like thing. You might be able to get a bit more of a feminine shape with that. It is all about proportions. Even if your legs and shoulders are big, a smaller waist would help balance it out

And your face is pretty enough as it is!

Aw, thank you! Well, if you guys think I should keep it... I've never heard of "spanx", but I have heard of others using corsets. I actually knew someone who was trying to become a girl and they used a corset. It couldn't hurt to get one...

you could potentially pull off a brunette jodie foster type of look down the road but right now you still look like a dude.

Finally, someone who believes what I've been saying. ;_; But in all honesty, if I don't look like a girl now, I probably never will. Like I said, hormones can't change that much, and I'm now at the halfway point. It takes 2 years to see the maximum effect of hormones, and I've just passed one year. I doubt one more year will make much of a difference, but we'll see.

No, no, women can have some masculine traits without looking male.
Like for instance some female athletes can have such traits, but are are still plenty female in appearance.
Having some traits that are associated with guys doesn't automatically make someone look like a guy. A number of women in my family have rather broad shoulders.

You do NOT look like a 'man masquerading as a woman'. You look like a woman who is sturdily built.

Thanks. ^^ But you can't really see how masculine my legs look from the knees and up. Trust me, it would look terrible if I tried wearing anything shorter, or mini-skirts. And considering I'm wearing a slimming color, you can't really notice how big my arms are, even if the sleeves are more form-fitting. I'm cheating a lot, here...

And I doubt it's the angle. Like I said, someone I know told me a few months ago, "You have really big hands." One of the reasons I try to avoid wearing nailpolish. I don't want to draw attention to how masculine they are.

And Perfect Dark, good game. What is that arcade stick? It seems kinda plastic and reminds me of the Nes.

Yes! I'm surprised someone noticed that! One of the greatest games of all time! And one of my favorites. ^^ And it's actually a "Super Advantage", kinda like the "NES Advantage", except it was for the Super NES.

If I may ask, if it aint too personal... are you going to keep the little member or cut it away?

Oh, I doubt you could ask anything that would cross the line with me. I fully intend to get rid of it, but financially, I might as well be trying to get to Mars. I honestly don't think I'll ever see it happen in my lifetime. Even for something like changing my name, that costs $300, so I doubt I'll be even able to do that for awhile.

Serena Williams is actually who came to mind when reading Wal's post. Kind of had to Google the others when you mentioned them, though...

And someone once showed me a couple "before-and-after" pics of facial feminization, and in all honesty... Those that looked pretty masculine didn't really look much more feminine, and those that already looked like a girl just looked like a slightly different girl. From what I saw, it didn't seem to change that much, unfortunately... So that's why I figure there's not much point. Then again, it's not like it's gonna make me more masculine, so I guess it wouldn't hurt...

I am a bit under the two year mark on HRT myself, and just about two months past SRS, so I've had a lot of adjustment to go through. You just have to determine what you want and reach for it.

Hands are harder to play around with. Some girls have bigger hands so I wouldnt think too much about them, but it exist different fingerless gloves if you really want to try something.
The lower parts of your arms look fine, so dont be ashamed of showing them.

Honestly, you would be surprised at how normal those feelings are for even natural girls though. How many girls starve themselves because they hate the way they see their bodies? How many stay at home crying when they could be outside? You need to learn to love who you are. I learned this first-hand, but how can you like anybody else if you can't like yourself? When you wear yourself with confidence, you will be surprised at the results, both in how you look, and how people react to you. As for the jealousy, I suspect this is tied into the not liking yourself bit, but you do also need to let this go regardless.

Well, it was a bit expensive up-front because I got it done in Canada. It was $25000 Canadian. Going to get reimbursed by insurance, just waiting on that because I had to file it after the fact. I dunno, I worried about my appearance for maybe the first six months but my thing has always been the need to be socially reacted to as a girl, and I have that now. I recommend not relying as much on how you think you look, and rely more on how others react to you as being more accurate.Just don't be confused, you don't have to be pretty to look like a girl, so I guess keep that reality in mind to temper the unrealistic goals. I hope you have a few good friends to help you out because it helps alot to escape the echo chamber of your own thoughts on how you look to get insight to your looks.

That's... not really the same. They don't have to worry about going out in public and being seen as a guy. They don't have to worry about the wind, or the heat, fighting against every little detail just to maybe be seen as androgynous, let alone an actual girl. When I go out, I know how people see me.

You need to learn to love who you are. I learned this first-hand, but how can you like anybody else if you can't like yourself?

I never really understood this... I like other people just fine. I like tons of people. Just because I don't like myself doesn't mean I can't like others. (Now getting others to like me, now that's another story...)

When you wear yourself with confidence, you will be surprised at the results, both in how you look, and how people react to you. As for the jealousy, I suspect this is tied into the not liking yourself bit, but you do also need to let this go regardless.

I don't think I can stop feeling jealous. It's something I'll probably always feel for the rest of my life... Trying to get me to stop would probably be like trying to get me to stop liking games, or wanting to be a girl. Also, it's kinda hard to be confident with an appearance like this...

Wow. You're rich. And that's what I want too obviously, but of course you have that now. You actually look like a girl. ^^ No wonder why you don't worry about your appearance.

At least half of that is how you talk and carry yourself, and the other half is how you look. I'll give you a pic of how I look

Well... For one, I don't have a feminine voice. So surgery for that will probably be needed. And two, feminine body language isn't something that comes naturally to me like you or others... Which is another thing that gives me some doubt. Even if it's something that's sort of a "learned" trait, I have no idea how I could even begin doing that, especially with this body. Also, I normally don't like seeing pictures of others like this, but you actually do look pretty, as mentioned before.

Well, it's kind of hard to trust that. I have a general rule of thumb regarding female pronouns, if that's what you're referring to by "how others react to you": old people and drunk people don't count. If a younger person were ever to say that though, that would probably mean a little more. And... that's true, I guess you don't have to be pretty. ;_; I suppose if I have to accept reality here... I don't really have anyone to talk to, though. But like I said before, I'll admit that some of the encouragement here has been kind of a positive influence. I might feel a liiittle better. Just a little. Maybe 1% better. ^_^; But it's still been helpful.

I'm not sure about looking completely like a girl, that isn't totally realistic, but I do accept that I do pretty well.

As for voice, keep in mind that the surgeries for it won't give you a range you already can't reach, it just keeps you from reaching the low notes anymore. You could already reach those higher ranges with practice and effort. The surgeries are also kinda risky and sometimes come loose anyways, so be careful with that.

But yeah, I do recommend you try to steer yourself to a generally more positive outlook. I don't think you are doing so badly, just keep working on it. I mean I am too, so it is always a work in progress.

Eh, throw some makeup on and you're all set. I was thinking you'd be jacked, definitely not too masculine.

I was wearing makeup. ¬_¬ That's the only reason my face looked as smooth as it did. There's a limit to how much I can get away with, though. Too much, and I end up looking more masculine again. And I don't want to end up looking like a clown, or drag queen. Maybe the most visible I'd want my makeup to be is eyeliner, assuming it works for me...

Being able to afford $25,000 is just "well off"? ;_; And you were already saving up a year before you even started on hormones? I'm kinda impressed...

I'm not sure about looking completely like a girl, that isn't totally realistic, but I do accept that I do pretty well.

Well, if people in public think you are a girl, then you must look like one. You don't think saying you look like a girl is realistic? Well if your appearance doesn't look like a girl, then I definitely have no chance... ^^ But obviously you do, so I don't know why you would ever suspect otherwise.

As for voice, keep in mind that the surgeries for it won't give you a range you already can't reach, it just keeps you from reaching the low notes anymore. You could already reach those higher ranges with practice and effort. The surgeries are also kinda risky and sometimes come loose anyways, so be careful with that.

...Are you sure? I mean, I saw a YouTube video once someone did before they got the voice surgery and after, and their voice sounded much more feminine. And yeah, I've heard there are some risks, like losing your voice entirely, but I rarely speak anyway because of my voice... But if you're right, and somehow what I saw was incorrect, then there's not much hope of sounding like a girl. My voice can't change like that.

But yeah, I do recommend you try to steer yourself to a generally more positive outlook. I don't think you are doing so badly, just keep working on it. I mean I am too, so it is always a work in progress.

Well, you've got quite a lot more to be positive about than I do. ^^ So you shouldn't have anything to worry about. And yeah, I guess maybe I'll try being more positive. Everyone in this topic has been saying I should, anyway. Maybe they have a point...

I usually stay out of these topics, but fwiw your face has a feminine, estrogenic look to it. Give it time, puberty takes a lot longer than two short years...

Plus if you're 5'5 you're going pretty well and can't have that big of a frame.

And do you mean like those little bands you can tie around your arm? Or am I thinking of stuff you'd only see in a video game?

No, its like a tube of fabric that you insert your arm into. Like a sock for the arm without the foot... well hand part.

Im surprised to see this, would have never guessed that. But she got a point, there are multiple before and after pictures of pornstars using makeup and they look like two different persons. Ive seen makeup stores having individual how to guides on evenings because we all got different lines in our faces and showing/reducing exactly what lines are pretty individual. Im not saying that you are doing it wrong, just that you might find something that makes you happier.

Transpersons have been more acceptable lately, which means more of them have left the closet and being more open about it.

Have you tried looking up vocal feminization guides and trying to alter your voice? You might be surprised what you can actually do if you work at it as far as range.

From what I've heard, hormone treatment's effects max out at 2 years. Apparently, there are sometimes exceptions, but I guess they're kinda rare. Also, you make it sound like 5'5 is small, but I feel bigger than pretty much every other woman I see in public...

I don't think I've seen that particular article of clothing before... Assuming it doesn't make my arm look bigger, I could try that out.

Well, like I said earlier, if I wasn't wearing makeup, you would have definitely been able to see some stubble. Unfortunately, I'm one of those guys that, after they shave, you can still see it. ;_; Then again, the only thing I was wearing was foundation, but regardless of how much I put on, I'd want my appearance to look natural anyway.

I dunno... I know pretty well what ranges my voice is capable of, I think. I almost don't go a single day without humming along to the music I'm playing. I've used my voice a ton, so I'm pretty sure I know my voice's range better than anyone. (Then again, maybe I don't work it out as much as other people would...) If I keep my voice soft and quiet, I think I can kinda make it sound feminine (if only because it's so hard to hear), but any louder and it gets pretty obvious it's a guy's. Admittedly, I have once or twice been "mistaken" for a female on the phone, but I think those were lucky flukes...

I'm beginning to think the pictures I chose are beyond "misleading" and closer to "dishonest". ^^; Trust me, no girl would ever be born shoulders this broad. Even someone I knew commented that they were the only thing about me that wasn't feminine. And when I showed him the size of my upper arms, he said it was "bulbous". But if these things don't seem that noticeable, maybe it shows that I'm pretty good at hiding it. (You know... with certain clothes...)

I looked up images of her on Google, and I do not have anywhere near that kind of body type. They have really tiny, slender shoulders and slender arms, and a pretty slim body. It seems like they were born with a much more feminine appearance than I was. ;_;
