I believe Hip Drop was coined in the Mario Party series, particularly in two. Check the controls screens for the minigames that have it.

I think it varied by game. Platformers, it was Ground Pound. (...actually, maybe even Pound the Ground) Everything else, I think I called it Hip Drop.
