I could see it resulting in Slater climbing the ladder to get the briefcase, Ryback getting under it, lifting up the ladder and Slater and hitting the whole thing with the fallaway buster

From: FFDragon | #243 Punk was on Kimmel last year, so it's not like this is a new thing for him.
I presume you're talking about when he visited Kimmel's cousin or whatever - that was different, he wasn't actually a guest on the show. That's not much different from doing a Make-A-Wish or something. Being interviewed on a talk show is a different kettle of fish.
CM Punk told a great little tale about how he hates dealing with the media on Colt's podcast last week.
<paraphrasing> "So this prep guy for the media appearance comes up to me and he says, 'Don't take this the wrong way, but man you guys get smaller every year!' to which I replied "Don't take this the wrong way, but you media prep guys get uglier and stupider every year!'"

Well....
Cena to Orton to Miz to Punk... sounds right.

I really wish they'd stop pretending that Punk is some sort of major media crossover guy when he clearly doesn't even WANT to be that. Punk is a wrestler. He's Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels. If you want someone to be The Rock then stick with Cena, or bring back The Miz, or put the belt on Jericho or something. Those guys actually LIKE doing stupid interviews. Punk just wants to wrestle.

The funny part about that question is it's not necessarily offensive depending how you look at it. Punk is just a dick or overly defensive about his size.
Leaning the former.

From: Jakyl25 | #263 Nah, the way I heard it was that the guy was kinda taken aback by it and said he didn't mean to offend Punk.
Punk just doesn't deal with people very cordially. <___< Didn't he say like "I wasn't offended by it but if you're going to say stuff like that, I'm gonna give you some back"

To be fair... I'm not really sure what the right way to respond to "you guys get smaller every year" is.
"Thanks?"

The right way is to talk about how it's cool how the sport has evolved from 6'6" muscleheads all the time so talented guys like Punk get the shot they deserve.

I'd take it as a "hey I guess you guys finally stopped doing steroids, eh?" insinuation myself.

MitB qualifying match: Damien Sandow def. Zack Ryder
God damn. That had mileage as a feud, and Ryder is out of MitB too. Sucks. Sandow in the MitB match is cool, though. I'd have had them both in it so they could maybe take each other out of the match or something.
From: Lopen | #268 The right way is to talk about how it's cool how the sport has evolved from 6'6" muscleheads all the time so talented guys like Punk get the shot they deserve. Yeah, I'm sure the media prep guy is interested in that story.
Daniel Bryan %u200F@WWEDanielBryan At Smackdown in Evansville... @CodyRhodesWWE and I serenaded our little friend with The Ballad of Hornswoggle. It was EPIC. @wwehornswoggle
Eh I think he had some interest in what Punk had to say given he started a conversation. Like to me that really didn't come off as him trying to goad Punk.
And I'm just saying in terms of thinking of image and stuff that's the "right thing" to say, and actually something that might be somewhat natural to say at that.
-- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love!
Well it's certainly not natural to say. That's why I joked that the media guy would be interested in hearing it.
Honestly the best thing he could have done if he was trying to make nice with the guy would have been to just laugh and not respond. But I don't think he really has any reason to care about making nice with media prep guys. It's ultimately not a big deal.

Yeah. I really don't think this kind of stuff helps him at all. Say what you want about Cena, and maybe it's not even true, but he certainly has the IMAGE of a nice, approachable, relateable guy IN REAL LIFE. Punk pretty regularly gives off the exact opposite impression, and in terms of being the face of the company that kind of thing actually IS important. Remember, part of Punk's "reality" promo last year was talking about how much he hates signing autographs for fans. And that's fine. You don't have to. But then don't be surprised when they put the title on someone who loves doing that **** instead of you.

SmartMuffin - Because anything less would be uncivilized - http://img.imgcake.com/smartmuffin/barkleyjpgde.jpg http://dudewheresmyfreedom.com/
But once again. If Cena WILL do that and pretend to like it, well that's one more point in Cena's corner that Punk won't get when the topic of "who do we want representing our company to the general public" comes up in the board room.

From: Jakyl25 | #282 That's the original point though. If he's gonna represent the company as a jerk then maybe he shouldn't be representing the company. <_< I just mean that there's a difference between representing the company and being a dick backstage to the suits. So long as he doesn't, like, go on Letterman and call Letterman an old fart who should have retired a decade ago, or say during an interview that he thinks people who believe in religion are stupid or something along those lines, I don't think they care how he treats a media prep guy.
-- Ace Detective in Sir Chris' Police Resident Straight Edge Superstar of Board 8
Uh, I care a lot more about how he treats the media prep guy than how he treats David Letterman. The prep guy is just doing his job and making small talk. He's a nobody. It's how you treat the nobodies that shows your true character.

dragon isn't a jerk! problem solved! but punk is an outspoken kinda guy. they know this already and it's part of his persona... as well as real attitude. to be clear, punk is fine with you being a fan, saying hi, small things like that. if you're polite and respectful, he's cool with it too. but if you start being a bit too crazy or shift away from his low profile, he'll have problems with you.

From: Lopen | #286 It's not something that's that weird to say, though. Yes, that is incredibly weird to say. Especially calling himself talented. Try telling anyone who doesn't follow wrestling that a certain wrestler is "talented" and they'll look at you like you're joking and then ask if you know "wrestling is fake."

It's how you treat the nobodies that shows your true character. You may care, but Vince McMahon could give two f***s how he treats the prep guy compared to how he treats David Letterman, which is my point. They don't care about that story. He could do that a hundred times and that will not affect their decision to make him a media guy or not.

From: Jakyl25 | #289 What if he says it on Twitter? Because he does say that on Twitter. <____< I assume they're alright with that considering how much he does things like that.
Like if they had a problem with that, either he'd stop doing it or he'd stop being the guy representing the company by now.
From: Lopen | #292 I'm pretty sure a guy who is doing media prep for a WRESTLING event isn't going to be one of those people I am pretty sure he is one of those people. The media prep guy's job is not to understand wrestling.when WWE is an entertainment company in Vince's mind. The reason for all these silly, contrived terms like "superstars" and "WWE Universe" are because the people in charge of this kind of thing are not interested in wrestling.
-- Ace Detective in Sir Chris' Police I assure you, my dear, all Ace Detectives are perfect gentlemen!
Point stands, though. If the guy knows enough about wrestling to observe the guys are getting smaller and make smalltalk with a wrestler I don't really think he's going to be one of those people. Those people uh... aren't as common as you think anymore, really. I think most people realize that wrestling is a performance art at this point. "Is wrestling fake!?" hasn't got any media coverage since like the late 90s and the reason for that is because no one cares anymore.
Basically what I'm saying is just because you have some idiot friends that like to say that don't think it's typical. Pretty sure most people aren't like that these days.

From: Lopen | #295 I think most people realize that wrestling is a performance art at this point. Honestly? I've tried having conversations about wrestling with people who don't follow it, which is why I know how unnatural it ends up being. Referring to someone as talented or untalented always, invariably leads to either "You know wrestling is fake, right?" or "Isn't wrestling fake?" Because they have no idea how you can be talented at something fake. I'm not sure why it's such a difficult concept to understand that someone could perform well in a performance, but I guess the idea that wrestling qualifies as a performance isn't really widespread among people who don't watch it.
You can dismiss it as "I have idiot friends," but try it yourself some time.
-- Ace Detective in Sir Chris' Police http://i53.tinypic.com/2hpufbd.png
I have tried it myself that's why I have strong doubts that's the general thought. I think I've heard one person say that to me ever-- and it wasn't even "wrestling is fake" we just started getting into an argument about what wrestling guys are actually "good at."
