It's not the amount of sales it's the fact that in the "oversaturation" of fighting games two niche game still managed to be successful (a new indie IP and franchise that has never sold that great) yet the game with two of the biggest names in the genre is flopping.

like 50k-70k for skullgirls

I think those are close. That's what I heard anyway. Most everyone I know who bought Skullgirls actually had bought SFxT too. As for KoF/SFxT I don't know. Feels like everyone who would've bought it also bought SFxT to me. I think bad reviews within the community and on the internet pre-release are likely more to blame.

No DLC for sale. How they expect people to buy their product if they are not selling it. The game is being bombarded by negative opinions of people who wanted to buy the 12 DLC characters. Is true there are too many good games within a shot time gap with extra content to buy also. Holding on to the product that is available and ready for purchase was not a very good idea. They are going to throw us the newspaper on the face when they get ready to sell the 12 characters DLC. Just wait for it.

For it to have such name power and yet have sluggish sales while other fighting games are doing well for themselves points that fighting game oversaturation isn't that major of a reason why the game is doing bad.

The FGC isn't going to salvage this game either, tons of top players including Mr. Wizard who runs Evo can't wait until after Evo so they can ditch this game.

It is a Capcom game through, and those usually had the most entrants and viewers, at least until SFxT. He announced the game before it came out, now all you mostly see him do now it regret having the game in the lineup and calling it the worst game Evo ever had. If Evo didn't have to be planned months in advanced he would have removed that game.

Also Skullgirls wasn't allowed due to not having a release date at the time the games for Evo were announced, it'll probably be in next year and have lots of exhibition matches this year.

Well let's be fair to SFxT BEFORE it came out. Everyone was praising it. It looked like it was going to be a great game. However, once people started to actually dive into it and really play it a lot... it started to be really bad and its problems were exposed. The fact is that it looked very promising. And then Capcom s*** the bed with it.

yeah before it came out Mike Ross was all like "it's my favorite game ever" and Gootecks was like "not as good as 3s but still really fun"

a month after it came out, Mike Ross was like "I don't like how this game is played" and Marn was like "LOL jab jab jab crossup jab jab jab crossup"

Anyway people still want to play and buy fighting games, they just don't want to play the games that Capcom is designing right now. I know it sounds weird to point at KOF and Skullgirls as doing it right when they sold way less, but if SFxT was designed as an honest fighting game like they were it probably would've sold better. The last time Capcom put out a fighting game that most people liked and respected was CvS2. That was like a decade ago. Seems like these days if you want traditional designed games you need to look somewhere outside of Capcom.

But it really doesn't say that oversaturation isn't the problem at all, since... As somebody said in this topic, chances are a LOT of the same people that bought KoF/Skullgirls bought SFxT. Fans of fighting games buy fighting games, and SFxT LOOKED good. KoF/Skullgirls are niche, so their popularity isn't going to really rise and fall all that much. They're going to have the same core fanbase: The FGC, more or less. SFxT is the one that more casuals are going to buy, though, and thus much more likely to be affected by oversatuation.

Not saying I necessarily agree. But it's entirely possible.
