In my tabulating the likelihood of when and where I'll be upon St. Totteringham's Day this year, I got to thinking about our likelihood of finishing above the Toon as well.
Arsenal P35 Pts 65 Newcastle P34 Pts 62
Arsenal Remaining fixtures:
@ Stoke City v. Norwich @ West Brom
Newcastle Remaining fixtures:
@ Wigan @ Chelsea v. Man City @ Everton
Assuming Newcastle beat Wigan, the idea of them getting more points out of their last 3 than we do from ours makes my stomach turn. If we can't get more from our fixtures than they do, we don't even deserve top four, let alone top three.
We like to make things difficult though, so on the subject of St. Totteringham's Day, I will probably be in Japan to celebrate it. Hoping 'Arry doesn't get them together though. Hopefully they end up in 6th ;)
So, umm, wow. We've got about a month before the end of the season man. Seems like it was only yesterday when 10 games in it's still early in the season. and Extha probably freaked out after the series of losses, highlighted by the 8 - 2 thrashing. One month before the end of the season and this topic is so deserted already. I can't imagine how painfully boring the off-season is going to be. No football to discuss. No football to watch. No football to bet on. I mean, there's the Euro but we all know internationals just doesn't satisfy that craving at all. Just look at the last time we had a round of internatonals. The topic was so dead it got purged. I mean, sure, it'll be sweet to taste the tears of Farcelona fanboys and maybe laugh at City winning the title but my gosh May till September is going to be so boring.
Friendlies and Quaifiers are like exhibition games, the only drama comes if a good team wasn't able to trash the crap and suddenly ends up sweating for qualification, but those don't happen often enough.
Why should we care about games that don't mean ****? Tons of subs, tons of different gameplans, the squads are rarely at full strength because Managers are trying out new guys and a lot of players don't go all out because they don't want to get injured for club duty.
Yeah we should keep discussion in here instead of making those ~*~LIVE~*~ topics. I'm actually really looking forward to Euros.
and yeah, the beginning of the season was a dark time for me. I'm trying to forget that it actually happened. I'm just on pins and needles waiting for us to clinch third though. That would be such a massive, massive achievement, to clip third place after all we've been through this season. The total upheaval, and clawing ourselves back from 12 points behind Spuds. I dunno, it will be pretty meaningful. I'm sure not as meaningful as it would be for City to win next week, but still.
You know, all of these topics have had pretty much the same exact effect on the teams we've used them on. Let's all laugh at United? They go on an absolute tear and reclaim first. Let's all laugh at Arsenal? Rip Sp*rs apart en route to winning nine of eleven and claiming third. Let's all laugh at Chelsea? FA Cup Final, beat Barcelona in the CL. Let's all laugh at City? Somehow crawl out of an eight point hole to be within touching distance of the title.
-- We can't stop here. This is bat country. Brace for the G's, and fast heel-toe work.
Barca's corner setup is really effective. 3 people in the box all trying to knock it down to the outside where they have about 6 lining up around the fringes in space.
