And screw this feeling sorry for jp stuff. he was terrible and fat jokes were, and still are, hilarious. I've never laughed as hard as I have at that one topic that was absolutely full of them.

Oh and he obviously loved them, too. He encouraged them. Do you not remember him saying stuff like "I've had my fill of this topic"? He was begging for people to make fat jokes. And he was pretty disliked long before he posted that pic. Back when Create a Character was a popular thing, he did his best to derail it and moaned when his characters didn't win like nobody's business.

Yeah, it was that guy. He made one topic at first, and then several hours later he made two or three other topics about how Board 8 didn't welcome new people and decided it wasn't worth his time to stay or some nonsense.

Somehow, someone found out it was the jp, but yeah.

People used his weight to pester him because he was sensitive about it and it was easy and convenient

People decided to pester him in the first place because he had one of the worst attitudes ever seen on the board and acted like a complete piece of s*** most of the time and absolutely refused to make any effort to understand any perspective that was not his own. He couldn't stop complaining and was completely unable to recognize his behavior/attitude. Even when people tried to explain to him that he was the cause of his own problems on the board and gave him advice about how to not act like a douchebag all the time, he would throw it right back in the board's face with one of those "derr this is how i am and everyone on the board sucks if they cant accept and respect me" types of lines. Undeserving of any sympathy imo.

Yeah, let's not act like people made fun of jp just because he was fat. He's not the only fat person on Board 8. The fat jokes were mostly a consequence of the fact that most people already didn't like him anyway.

It depends what you were into on the board. I don't think its up for debate that as the years have ticked on the number of surreal, eyebrow raising characters on the board has dropped and in correlation so as the amount of drama and change that occurs. Board 8 right now is a settled community (or in a rut depending on your viewpoint), it isn't going to have the same levels of change or volatile behavior as it once did.

Not to mention that there are just less "new" users in general emerging from the last few years.

The reason I say people were pestering him because of his weight wasn't solely directed at the masses or anyone in this thread, I know and fully support what kind of guy he was and if it wasn't his weight he was being railed for it would have been something else.

It was the three people I mentioned (EC, MYC, Sess) who were especially prominent at it and all had form in the area of picking on someone with a vulnerability for no good reason other than that. (aspergers, racial terms, family problems etc) Thats the side of people I don't like to see and I think there were elements of that on the jp, whether they were disguised as something else or not I think he'd have got it from those guys regardless.

Its a pretty common self hatred thing to do that, after he was at his greatest prominence with the board he took a long break of a few months or maybe a year, I can't remember. When he came back he was a calmer, very reflective sort and was speaking about some psychological difficulties he'd been having and that he felt he was getting over them. I think he gave a pretty long interview with Vlado at the time (remember that vlado radio thing?), and I don't remember quotes from it but I think he suggested the board was aggravating his personal well being and he had sunk to a dark place. Something to that effect.

As I recall even after returning and considering himself more calm and collected before he was still heckled off the board again by the same people with the same jokes.

the jp became too indulgent in the negative attention, and really just needed to go somewhere else. Save My Final Fantasy Girlfriend contests should be washed off the board with acid and bleach and even at that, shouldn't be a big reason for anyone to come back to a negative place.

I think there's an interesting point about the people that pick on jp also having their own issues, it's just that jp's weight makes it acceptable for most people whereas things like addiction or illness or gender misidentity are 'too personal' to make fun of.

omega was a typical board 8'er around the 2007 crop of newcomers. He was mostly recognised on the board though stood out for very little. Until a certain episode occurred which not only branded him for the rest of his board 8 existence but also was a symbolic event of how its usually best not to tangle board 8 into your everyday life and also the bizarre lengths and risks people would go to for board 8 credibility.

His story simply was that he was a guy who had acquired a girlfriend. A girlfriend he liked talking about very much, often in explicit detail and often accompanied with revealing pics. (Like so: http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/3968/imageeb3.png)
This dominated his board 8 identity for a while and he seemed quite happy to milk the attention that came with it, I can't say I paid a great deal to these threads but they were clearly persistent enough for brakmaster to feel that it was worth checking out.
He contacted the girl on myspace and it was not only revealed that he wasn't with him, she barely even knew him. In one fell swoop both his real and internet social life was demolished.

It was a ruthless and downright hilarious uncovering and while I'd have reservations with jp's treatment, omega had earned every drop of it.
