Yeah that's probably true. Like I'm pretty satisfied with what I do, I teach Clarinet lessons and make about $1000/mo. For me that's pretty cool and I have loads of free time, but a lot of people would probably look down on that. We have some pretty cool and bright people who work at restaurants or in retail as well, which I suppose falls into the same boat.

Eh, whatever. At this point B8 is mostly in it's mid-20s and there's still time for everyone to figure something out if they want.

This community is very smart and educated, and we approached that "professional" age a while ago, yet very few of us have spoken about conquests and successes in the real world. I know there are guys like neon and SephG who have done a great job, but considering the general talent and smarts in this place, I thought we'd have at least a few young doctors, lawyers, and business owners by now.

Maybe those guys just moved on, which could have (totally coincidentally) contributed to their successes.

Eh, you can hang out on here in moderation. I don't think board 8 (or boards in general, whatever) is some anti-success blocker that has only a few exceptions.

I think you guys misunderstand me. I'm not saying they're too smart for the board or anything. they just have some genuine ability to do great things and I hate to see them waste their time arguing about lolicon or getting into a stupid alpha/beta spat. that's for people bored without anything to do. MYC? she had things to do.

I'm fairly intelligent but I am not creative or brilliant like those guys. I'm not wasting talent like MYC was. I'm glad to see she's moved on.

Arguing on here and being creative on here could keep you sharp for IRL things.

I mean let's take someone like Chris, who's a pretty creative and funny guy, writing Doom. I think he's admitted that Doom is not the most well-written thing he's ever done, but the humour alone is great probably keeping him sharp and possibly improving the way he uses humour in his writing. A reasoned debate helps your critical thinking and such, too, even if the subject is kind of trivial. You could call stuff you do on here, which doesn't really matter, a kind of trial for the real world. In that regard it's arguably a far more worthwhile hobby than, say, playing videogames or watching a movie.

I'd actually argue that it slightly does hamper success. I do wonder sometimes how much further i could be in life if i didn't waste my time here.
