MG is pretty much dead without Hideo Kojima. It's not one of those torches you can pass easily like with other games. Most of what made MG games amazing was Hideo Kojima's twisted brain... But hey, Death Stranding 2 is coming out some time, if that's close to how amazing the first one was, I'm happy.

But yeah... Imagine Konami got Kojima back to make MGS6. That would be insane...

The airports in the UAE are clean and nice but the employees are all fucking incompetent. Immigration takes unreasonably long, it's absolutely absurd. People who've entered the UAE through the airports will know what I'm talking about.

Using that bread to make a BLT is a game changer.

Whoever makes those kinds of suggestions doesn't know arguably the most important point of working out. "Fun". If high weight low reps isn't enjoyable for someone, they will never persevere and won't make the gains that everyone said they'd make. Perseverance is the key to success when trying to lead a healthy lifestyle, so I think it's important to put the "enjoyment factor" all the way up there.

Just be sure that you really want an open heart watch. I personally don't like them. I love seeing a mechanical movement, but there's a time and a place for it. I vastly prefer a clean dial with no holes. If I want to see into the movement, I flip it around and have a gander that way.

When I got my Seiko Alpinist Ginza edition there was the open heart version that you posted, and a more expensive Prospex version with a better 72 day power reserve movement vs a 42hr movement. In retrospect I'm really happy I went for the cleaner dial as it's a way more timeless look I find.

That being said, everyone's taste is different. If that's what you want, go for it. It's a Seiko so you definitely won't have to worry about quality.

Ebay and Chrono24 have fees that are too expensive, so I won't sell on those platforms.

Yeah, I actually sold 4 watches to fund this Aquanaut. 2 Tudors, a Rolex Explorer 2, and a vintage Breitling Navitimer. Reduced by 4, added one. I do have a new piece coming next week. I usually don't buy watches this close together, but this one will be an extremely rare (limited only to 70 pieces) Navitimer which if I didn't buy now I will likely never be able to purchase again. Maybe I'll make a new topic for that one. After all it's "only" worth about $8-9k, lol.

I will end up with 6 nice pieces after the consolidation and purchasing this one and the Navitimer.

I sure did! It's such a great piece, I've been wearing it for one straight week now. The slimness of the case and the way the strap connects seamlessly with the case makes it feel like an extension of my own wrist in a way no other watch I own does. A steel Rolex sub date costs over $10k retail now, closer to $17-18k on the secondary market. But the Patek Philippe is just so much more "watch", if that makes sense. The case construction is just next level. Love it.

thoughts on speedmaster reduced vs speedmaster professional?

I would avoid those. They are notoriously expensive to service, as they use an awkward modular chronograph movement instead of a fully integrated one (like the 1861/3 or 3861). It's basically an ETA2824 with a module placed on top, which is why if you look at the side of the case, the pushers aren't in line with the crown. Other things are the dial is of a lesser quality, with the subdials not having any depth like on other Speedmaster counterparts.

If you want a smaller case Speedmaster, then either go for the Speedmaster FOIS (first Omega in Space) which comes in a 39mm case, vs the 42mm Moonwatch case. Or go for the ref 3594.50, which was a broad arrow re-issue from the 90s and 2000s with the 39mm case and 1861 movement. The 3594.50 Speedmaster Professionals are the biggest manual wind Speedmaster value props you can find at the moment. They are very slept on!

You're likely to spend maybe a grand more than a reduced, but you're getting a lot more value and a cheaper movement to service in the future.

I'm sure you know this but for others bear in mind those resistances are often measured in static pressure. I'm sure a swimming pool is no problem but those numbers are under the most ideal circumstances, and even the simple act of paddling your arms creates dynamic, changing pressures.

The screw down crown is a great indicator that it can infact readily stay at that depth though.

For sure. My rule of thumb is 100m + screw down crown means okay to submerge. 120m is alright for the pool and close-to-surface diving.

how do you feel about the omega/swatch moonswatch?

I bought a couple, then I ended buying a real speedy because of the moonswatch, and not the other way around.

That's pretty interesting, I've heard this quite a lot. People thought it would hurt the sales of the Moonwatch but it actually seems like it helped considerably. People at Omega are on record for saying real Moonwatch sales have gone up.

I like them. I got the Mission to Mars. It's a nice color and somethig I don't have to worry about banging around. It seems to have pumped the Swatch Group with liquidity, which will help them make plenty more nice watches. So who am I to complain?

kirbymuncher posted...
When you say divers watch, do you mean like diving underwater? Is it waterproof? Are you going to go diving with it?

Yes, 120m water resistance, which is plenty considering the slim case. Screw down crown as well to prevent pulling crown out accidentally. The aesthetic is also a diver's look, especially with the rubber strap as well. I'm not a regular diver, but I wil definitely take this one swimming!

as for Grand Seikos, I feel they tend to have some really cool and interesting dial designs, such as the snow flake dial or the bamboo dial, but theyre still just seikos. Why pay Omega money for a (grand) seiko? People complain about paying 250$ for a moonswatch since its just a swatch, but at least its a proper Omega collaboration and design and just 250

With watches for some people brand perception is just super important, and I get that. But with me I also just enjoy really high quality stuff. The brand perception has nothing to do with the actual physical watch itself.

Rolex has insane brand equity, but a Grand Seiko is just a league above them quality-wise. I own Rolex, I like them, but they're mass produced, well finished, robust watches. A Grand Seiko, case, dial, movement (which they display, unlike Rolex), are finished to a degree that you could easily compare to brands like Moser (watches starting at 20k), Breguet, etc. They are phenomenal watches, and if brand perception doesn't bother you, then with a Grand Seiko you're getting an insane watch, well above Rolex, Omega, Breitling, IWC in terms of quality.

If you're interested in salaries, I was working the first half of last year at a company making $70k annually. Yep, you heard correctly: Less than a lot of people here. On CE, imagine that. I quit that job mid last year because I'm taking care of our daughters (2 and 4 years old). I want to be around them as much as possible before they leave for kindergarten, so happy to take a pay cut. Luckily I still have my original profession as a martial arts teacher. This was my main job from 2011 till the pandemic hit, where my entire business went belly up. Luckily I was still able to work by buying watches, servicing them through my contacts, selling them, or curating rare watches for people who had money, or buying watches and trying to sell for 10-20% more than I paid. That's another field of expertise I've been able to make some bucks here and there with. Martial arts died during the pandemic (coming back now slowly, thankfully) so the watch stuff actually saved my ass.

if he has TWO pateks, 2 Rolexes, a Speedmaster, and a fairly expensive bike, and he posts in CE (which means he is 40 at the oldest, 20 at the youngest) and lives in Europe he probably comes from old money and does have a security detail. And by detail I mean 1 or 2 bodyguards.

you dont own 100k worth in watches because you got early into the market, and you dont feel the need to brag all the time to a bunch of CEmen if you have an important job, so I think he comes from money.

which is not a criticism AT ALL, more power to him.

The_Pika, you seem pretty passionate about pushing this narrative about me that I'm a show off. And while I don't have to prove otherwise to be able to look at myself in the mirror, I will talk a bit about myself as it does bother me when these assumptions get thrown at me despite people being completely uninformed about who I am, yet making in depth analyses about who I have to be.

I was born in the US, mom is Swiss, lived here in Zurich 95% of my life. I'm 33 years old, I was 15 when I made this account. Been visiting this site for longer than most of you (early 2000s) and been posting on CE since 2006. 17 years by now!

I wasn't born into money at all. In fact, I come from a middle class (and I don't mean upper middle) family. I would wager many of you were more fortunate than I was, growing up. Oh, and spoiler alert:Living in Switzerland doesn't automatically mean you're rich. Really seems like that has to be said.

I have several passions, as many of you have pointed out I like to show them off. Not all my passions are linked with money. I've become a food / cooking enthusiast since the pandemic. I could make a bowl of pasta before that, no more. Motorcycling is a passion of mine too, something my brother got me into when I turned 18. Worked my ass of over every single vacation, put every single penny towards a bike, and purchased a 125cc Honda at 18.

Video games is another one, why else would I be here. I still adore video games and play them whenever I have time. First daughter was born in 2018, second in 2020. So hard to find time, but I do try to play between 10pm and 1am, which is the only time I have for leisure. 100%ed Elden Ring finished Hollow Knight very recently too (love that game) and playing Hades now.

Watches became a passion of mine since I was in my mid teens and a rich friend of mine got a Navitimer at 16 for Christmas. Typical me: I vowed to own this watch one day because I love the design so much. Fast forward 10 years where my wife and I married, and she surprised me with a brand new Breitling Navitimer. I got deep into the rabbit hole of watches and started learning more and more and more. Got even more fascinated, and started saving money from my salary (which wasn't, and still isn't huge, mind you) and put them towards watches. Yes, a substantial part of my net worth is watches, irrational? Maybe. But I do enjoy it. I bought it way before the hype. Example: My Speedmaster Professional Meteorite dial, bought it for $2900 in 2016. It's worth about 23-24k now. That's more than the Patek I just bought, and I got in for less than 3k. So yeah, 20k is fucking expensive for a watch, even for me, and it took balls to make the purchase.

How do I afford all these watches you ask? Well, it's not because of I have some crazy salary. It's thanks to being financially responsible, putting every single penny towards keeping my costs low. I bought my apartment together with my wife. We down paid about 200k which was about 23% of the place we were buying. My wife and I cleaned out our pension, took every penny from our savings, borrowed from our parents to be able to make the purchase. Again, we put together a nice situation here, but not because we (or our parents) were rich. My wife comes from a lower middle class family, her parents were refugees when they came here, with nothing. We were just responsible and on the same wavelength when it comes to spending habits. We hardly ever eat out, don't go on lavish vacations, and instead indulge in investments that make sense to us. Luckily this apartment purchase helped us keep our costs low. We live in a place now that would cost about $3500 a month, yet we're paying $800 a month mortgage and extra fees. That's a difference of $2700 a month. With our regular salaries, that means I could theoretically buy a watch of this caliber after 7-8 months thanks to one of the best decisions I made in my life (buying our apartment). Again, the luxuries I'm able to indulge in, is mostly thanks to spending habits.

Now, why did I make this topic? There are topics here being made with the title "would you have this girl her sit on your face for 3 hours?" Or "check out all these sexy asses", or clickbaity political horse shit by biased new outlets, or "rate this girl out of 10" or "JK Rowling is a racist transphobe".

All I'm doing is posting something that people here aren't posting about. A bit of variety. A bit of passion sharing. A bit of fresh air. Is that such a problem? I shared my food videos with recipes to show how easy and cheap it is to make restaurant quality food. I posted my Orient Bambino Small Seconds as a watch people here should look at because it's an insane value proposition, I posted a recipe about no-knead bread because of how simple yet delicious it is. I post about video games on other boards, because this board is made for people who want to talk about all the other stuff.

Should I only post the expensive watches every fifth topic I make? No. I'll post about whatever's on my mind. I love a good discussion/debate, and when people disagree with me, I love hearing their angle. More insight is always welcome!

I've recently had articles published on legit platforms. These articles generate thousands of clicks, get shared all over social media, get referenced etc etc. It's a lot more (positive) attention then anything I'd get here. I'm just sharing it here too, because I thought the idea of coming to a VG board (which I love and have been posting on for almost 2 fucking decades) with something fresh, and something no one else posted / talks about wasn't something that would piss off so many people.

I make maybe 4-5 topics a year, and yes, most of the time it's "hey look at this, what do you think?". Or "Check out this recipe I've learned (recipe inside)".

I do post in other people's topics. Not as much as I used to, but I still do that. So when people say "all I do is post about my wealth". Yes I've made topics about cool stuff I own, but I post in other people's topics about all kinds of different things. Financial advice, relationship advice is something I'll enjoy helping with. Video game topics as well of course.

Anyway, it's not my goal to change your opinion about me. It seems like your opinion has already been formed. The point of this wall of text was to shed a bit of light on myself, and to tell people I'm not who you say I am. Best to hear from the person themselves.

PS: I don't have a security detail. I laughed out loud when you thought I had 1 maybe2 people looking out for me. LOL thanks for that man.

Yup, like I mentioned earlier (you must have ignored that post) I made a clickbaity title that is not factually untrue to generate some engagement in the topic.

Looks like it worked. I don't care how I come off to people who aren't willing to judge a book beyond the cover. That's their problem. I would say none of my posts in this topic came off as snobbish or arrogant. Point a single one out to me, where I ever claimed my watch to be better than an affordable alternative?

Seems like a huge target to put on your back unless youre rich enough to have a security detail.

Or you live in a country/city where crime like that isn't a thing. Even here though, despite very very low crime, I still don't wear it everywhere. I have plenty of affodable watches costing a few hundred or less, so I'm happy when those get wrist time too!

$10k or so in today's dollars is probably the max I would pay for a watch. If I could afford a Grand Seiko...

Insane value Grand Seiko, and one of my absolute favorite. If you can rock a leather strap, check out the Omiwatari. One of their most beautiful watches ever made, sublime quality. If you want a bracelet, ditto on the White Bitch or the Night Birch. Phenomenal pieces, affordable for what you get too.

I FUCKING LOVE THESE

I had a Mario bros one, it was actually close-ish in gameplay to the original (non-super) Mario bros. It looked just like these too.

then I had a star Fox one and it was different, and it had some protuberance in the back and I convinced myself the watch had an FX chip, lol.

such nostalgia man

Honestly I adore the ethos behind this type of watch, but this one just doesn't look nice to me personally. Case looks to clunky to be a versatile piece I could wear. VG themed watches are awesome, see the Street Fighter Seiko 5 watches. Love them! (I posted about them here too when they were announced!!)

Very cool! You've got all bases covered with those colors. Orange is a bit of a wildcard color which is awesome too, black is very understated. All 3 from arguably one of the best watchmakers of all time. Nice!

your passion isn't watches, it's bragging about expensive shit you buy so people will think you're important. there's a way to share your passions and not come off this way, but you didn't do it

Please point to me where I came off as bragging? Where have I not shown enthusiasm for more affordable pieces? I've made plenty of topics about affordable watches too, because I like them no less than a 20k Patek.

Maybe this will make a bit of sense to you. There are watches that cost sub $50 which I adore. And watches worth 30k that I despise. It's not about how much it costs, it's about what value the brand offers within it's price. It's not about the money, otherwise I wouldn't make literally the same topic about watches that cost a mere fraction of this one. Yes, this one happens to be more expensive, but it's not better than the Seiko @Malcrasternus posted.

Thanks man, really appreciate it. I keep encouraging the haters to at least read my posts in the topic, at which point they'll realized it's not about boasting but about passion. But some people will never change.

Yeah I get that sentiment. Luckily I live in Zurich Switzerland where crime is very low. Even in here in Zurich I'm very conscious where I wear stuff like this. I wear my $200-300 Seikos/Orient/Swatch often for this reason. Love them too and no worrying. Worrying while wearing a watch ruins all the fun.

I fucking love Seiko. Easily my favorite brand.

Top 3 brands for me as well. They are amazing.

Breitling
Seiko (including Grand Seiko, whose models start at $5k but quality of movement and finishing is comparable to brands worth multiples of that. Gotta of Japanese value for money!)
Patek Philippe (if it wasn't obvious)

Pretty cool man. I got a watch today too, though its a fraction of a fraction of the price.https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/5/8/AAL4msAAEN1q.jpg
I love it though, can't believe I waited so long to get a blueberry dial.

If I may ask, how do you justify it in your mind? The prices I mean. Do you buy them with the thought that they'll be worth more later, or is the passion so high that you don't mind wearing 20+ grand on your wrist, exposing it to dirt, sweat, and potential scratches?

I love that Seiko 5! I have a Seiko SKX this one was based on, it's such a great piece. One of my most worn! Yours also has the updated movement, hacking seconds manual wind and more power reserve. There are some very cool Seiko 5s! I love some of the Street Fighter limited editions!!

Also, this watch is perfect for the sweat issue. My other Patek is on a leather strap and when I sweat it can get a bit annoying. This watch is for those hot days, the rubber strap is designed in a way to let the sweat just roll right of it. Easy to clean thanks to a high water resistance (120m).

And yes, it takes some getting used to, wearing such expensive stuff. But honestly in the end it's just a watch. It won't feel too different from a $30 watch and you kinda need to get over the fact that it's so expensive after a while. Just be mindful where you wear it, wear it to places you feel comfortable. Otherwise why own the watch if it scares you to wear it? All the enjoyment gone! I usually have a sleeve over it, so it won't necessarily get banged around. First scratch will obviously hurt, but it gets better after. Every scratch will make it more my watch, if you catch my drift.

I agree there's poorly made metal watches, but I'm saying a rubber or cloth band watch will never convince me to take out my wallet. It makes the entire product look cheap, and that's not really what you're going for when you're dropping 5 figures on a watch, yknow?

Yes I understand there may be bias to it. And if the look isn't for you I completely understand. But I recently put my other Patek Philippe (Weekly Calendar Calatrava ref 5212a) on a nato strap (textile) and it looked amazing in my opinion. It was on calf leather originally. The casualness of the red nato strap matching perfectly with the subtle red elements of the dial. I just loved the contrast of the relaxed look, despite the watch being so high end.

I say wear the watch instead of the watch wears you. If you like the watch on a rubber strap, why the hell not? If you like it on alligator leather, go for it. If you like it on a textile strap, buy it if you like the way it looks!

This is the biggest watch flex ive seen on CE - sir you are currently in first place.

I dream of a 18k yellow gold sky-dweller - but you outclassed it

That's a great watch, and believe it or not, Rolex's annual calendar movements are quite reasonably priced for what you're getting. It's a very sophisticated complication, especially with the way Rolex integrated the bezel to interact with the movement to change what function you use the crown for. Revolutionary design, and amazing way to display the date. A dial happens to have 12 indeces for 1-12 o'clock, the same amount of months per year, so the indeces double up as month indicators. GMT and date complication in there too. Really cool model!

I'm gonna be real. As a watch man - spending any amount of money for a rubber watch band is laughable.

You'd be surprised. Plenty of poorly machine watches on metal bracelets, badly finished, bad links that pull hair, look clunky, no tapering and so on. It's not about the material, leather, metal, rubber, nato, textile. It's about the quality. When handling this watch and observing the bracelets. It is incredibly high end and the way it hugs your wrist really is insane. It has these ridges on the underside that make it so flexible yet still robust too.

I'd love to show you the physical watch. I use to have the same opinion as you, but I really have come around.

Seems at least $64,500 too much.

Watches are even more of a racket than sneakers it seems. And this is completely personal, but I don't even get the point of watches in current year.

I know for a fact that margins on watches are considerably lower than sneakers. The man hours that goes into making certain fine watches (I'm not talking Michael Kors or Fossil) are insane. I've lived in Switzerland all my life and I know the industry very well, high level Swiss made watches margins aren't as high as you think. Paying Swiss salaries for highly trained watchmakers, with Patek we're talking the best watchmakers / engineers / etc etc. in the industry.

A HUGE amount of money from sneakers goes into marketing. Patek Philippe has zero brand ambassadors, and sponsors NO events. These sneakers you're talking about are all mass produced in factories in countries where labor is cheap and skilled labor isn't necessary.

You can call it more ridiculous than sneakers if that's what you personally feel. I won't hold it against you, not many are informed about the watch industry, so they like to say things that don't always make sense. But there is way more value in a fine watch than a shoe. Yes, your phone tells the time, and it's more accurate. But that's like saying "well my Ford Focus gets me from A to B just like your Ferrari" .... Yeah NO SHIT! How can you be that oblivious?

I think there's only one reason someone would post this on gamefaqs current events and it doesn't have much to do with a watch.

That's what I think.

Think what you will, but I encourage you to read my posts and tell me where I'm trying to come off as a show off or a snob. I'm genuinely curious. For me it's about sharing a hobby. I posted about a sub $200 watch that I got as a gift in December and no one made any complaint that would resemble the one made in your post.

It's baffling how insecure people get just because someone owns an expensive watch. Honestly, it's a very special watch but it's still just a watch. It's not going to change my life, but it's a nicely made item that I personally happen to think looks nice. The fact that it has a value matters to me, yes. I also like spending money on stuff that holds a little bit of value at least, even if I never want to sell it. Going on a mindless vacation and blowing 1000s isn't what I necessarily enjoy doing, nor spend it on cars (I own a 2014 Honda Civic 1.4L). Same with eating out, where I live you can easily spend $50-60 on a regular meal, I prefer learning how to cook it myself. That way I can pay less (the watches don't pay for themselves, do they!) and learn something in the process.

I've even share small videos of me making food here. I posted a pizza making video on reddit that got 340k views in 2 single days. It inspired hundreds of people (judging by what people were saying in the comments) to make pizza, use my recipe. It was really humbling and I really took the time to respond to every dm and comment. The 1 min 30s video was made as simply as possible to show people how easy it is and everyone can do it. The passion and inspiration is what I enjoy sharing. Not "hey look at this delicious food I can make" or "hey look at my cool watch you can't afford". That shit is pathetic and makes me sick. So I get pretty annoyed when these types of accusations are thrown at me.

I spend it on stuff I enjoy and that happens to be watches (amongst other things)

Sorry for the wall of text. Just trying to offer my personal perspective.
