I'd call Barbarian good, but not quite as great as I was hyped up to it being given the praise it had been receiving. That said, still a really solid film for sure.

I liked that Bill Skarsgrd's character was actually just an awkward good guy despite the film trying to trick you into believing he'd be involved with something against Tess. The chemistry between them was pretty good and rather cute, sad he died halfway into the film. My biggest criticism is probably right around this point of the story; we get this disjointed view of another character who frankly you can't care about and so much time is spent developing him while you are pulled away from the characters you were already attached to and actually liked. I suppose I can see the point of it from a film-making perspective and as some sort of device, but as a viewer it took me out of the film for ever how long it took AJ to get to the house. It was jarring and sort of ruined the mood for me.

As for the antagonists, well outside of AJ since yeah, they were pretty neat. I did feel like including AJ and his whole "me too" sort of storyline detracted a bit from them as well though. I get the parallel between him and Frank they wanted to make, but at the end of the day it felt a little too forced and him being introduced halfway through the film was again just a bit mood killing for me.

Unfortunately nowhere locally picked up Orphan First Kill so we'll have to check that out at some other point in time. Probably will check Pearl out on Monday night. It's so bizarre that a film from this year already has a sequel, in theaters no less.

Hesitantly optimistic.

I liked Aladdin a good bit but Disney has been pretty bad with these remakes/retellings since then. This looks good visually at least. My only regret is looking at the comments section of the video.
