You also said I couldn't nominate the whole soundtrack! Either way, five hours of music is a heavy burden to place on somebody, and I couldn't bring myself to do it.

This was a fun comment to read. Anyway, Papyrus is just one member of a rich history of cackling skeleton villains. This game's skeleton is called Skullmageddon and his voice and personality are modelled on Skeletor, from the 1983-1985 animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, arguably the godfather of all cackling skeletons.

Alright after getting in a little more playtime, I have reranked my list. I dropped two of my nominations that clearly weren't getting in, replacing them with cool games that other people nominated. Looking forward to the next stage!

The game is very anti-searchable! It was intentionally uploaded to a couple of websites under two different names, "February 2003" and "Februrary 2003", and I basically chose which title to use here at random. The most up-to-date version lives here:

Also, this page reveals that I contributed to the game, and that nominating it was probably an ethical faux pas however, I did virtually nothing towards the game and only barely warrant crediting.

Thanks for listening! I feel like this went pretty well in terms of my goal of getting an atypically wide range of scores from a single album by one artist.

Reading through this topic has inspired me to try and rank the tracks of The American Album (and American Pixels, and some other related stuff) myself, and maybe rope some other people into doing it too. Look forward to that if I ever follow through with it.

Well, by some! Cole Henry of Polygon called it "a lot more than just a remake" (https://www.polygon.com/2020/9/18/21440136/). The line between 'remaster' and 'remake' has always seemed ambiguous to me, and if this is just based on something like the Wikipedia article using the word 'remaster' a few more times than it uses 'remake', I think I'll just go and edit it so that's no longer the case. Also, given that 1+2 was put together in Unreal Engine, I'd be surprised if any of the original codebase is meaningfully intact, which is what I feel like the metric would usually be?

To be honest, SMO's soundtrack seems fairly weak, especially compared to other Mario platformers. This song has never really done it for me at all. It's trying so hard to have personality... and feels soulless. I think cute things like the coin sounds detract from it, somehow. It makes the whole thing kind of feel even more by the numbers, like it was a song built by committee to appeal to as many nostalgic Mario fans as possible. It just comes across as corporate to me. At least it's better than Lifelight.

I'm curious whether you're thinking of songs like Forgotten Isle 2, Ruins, Ice, or Cave when you say that or if it's mostly all the other tracks I didn't just mention?
