- Highly praised by critics and more mixed with fans
- Focused on next generation and killed the previous protagonist in ways fans didn't like
- Led to a culture war mess with an extremely vocal internet subset that hates it for being "too SJW"

I agree on TLOU2, and Final Fantasy X-2 is a strong candidate here as well:
  • Follow-up to a safe, well-received entry in the franchise
  • Sought to be the opposite of the previous entry in many ways
  • Significant tonal shift (Compare TFA's sincere ending to TLJ's comedic lightsaber toss scene)
  • Divisive portrayal of a beloved character (Luke/Yuna)
  • "Subverted expectations" in terms of small-scale ideas but failed to take any serious risks down the stretch
  • Praised by critics; divided the fanbase

Finally saw it last night.

It's a fun, mindless movie that had me smiling the whole time. Toad stole the show whenever he got screen time. Suicidal Luma was hilarious.

Sadly, I didn't stick around for the final post-credits scene. Would've loved to see the Yoshi tease.
