Me: Ah ok fair enough. I'm free anytime this week?
Reception: Hmm we're really going to struggle this week.
Me: ...Ok, how about next week?
Reception: Hmm I'm not sure. You could try calling tomorrow before 9am, that would be best.

So I can't book in advance. I have to call up at a very early time of day just to see if it's possible they have any time that day? The fuck kind of doctor's practise is this? Dorsia?

Now Facebook is just a collection of 3rd hand memes and videos that automatically play as I scroll down looking for something someone actually posted. When I do find something real it's just someone informing me they went to X restaurant or Y holiday destination.

I've really fucking given up on it. It doesn't add anything to my life.

The caveat is you actually need to have some other interesting facets to you that make up for the lack of fitness. Not saying anything about you personally, just saying.

It's not that hard really. Most girls prefer a fit guy but some don't necessarily, and really there's a lot of things that contribute to the overall dating "value" of a person and whether they have a six-pack or not is really low on the totem pole.

TC is correct though. Obviously not all women (maybe not even most women) are into this, but there's a couple reasons why they can be:

- they dislike the lifestyle associated with fitness
- they find very fit men intimidating and/or overly vain
- they have their own body image problems and they find guys with very fit bodies off-putting/stressful

Basically everyone is different, it should be no surprise that some girls don't like a guy that spends at least half of his free time in the gym.

And yes I can also confirm that it's not necessarily a fat/ugly girl thing. Some babes are into it too.

As a rule I try not to go to places that offer too many choices. If your restaurant does fish and chips and burgers and steaks but it also does fucking ramen and sushi and thai food, none of that nonsense is going to be any good.

Doing the above also means you don't often run into the problem where the fries/other basic items are shit.

I have done some thinking about why I love silly hot-blooded shounen targeted at kids so much. It plays on some pie in the sky ideal of how I wish life worked. It sells me this fantasy of effort and sheer force of will overcoming any obstacles in life. I self-identify because I'm not talented or useful or valuable in any way, so it's such a seductive dream. If I try harder, if I want it more, if I just refuse to accept my limitations, I can overcome the fact that I'm a useless fuck-up.

Also the bad guys are so one dimensional and easy to understand. They want to destroy the world, or fight the strongest person, or take revenge on the main character. Their motivations are simple and as soon as they get physically beaten that's the end of it.

It'd be nice if the toxic people in your life were only ever nasty and they would just disappear into thin air after you punched them, but in real life toxic people are the ones who smile at you and fuck you over in ways that no amount of punching could ever resolve.

pinky0926
07/09/18 5:54:42 AM

I mean at the budget end most of these laptops are much of a muchness. You're going to get something that can do word processing and internet surfing and occasional streaming, so really the hardware specs aren't that important. Sally doesn't give a fuck if it has 400 jiggawhats, she just wants to be able to see pictures of her grandson on Bookface. In fact I would say that most people fall into that category and vastly overestimate the kind of machine they need when 99% of their time is spent browsing reddit or watching netflix.

Nobody ever tells you about the keyboard.

I remember a few years back going to buy a new laptop and everyone recommended Toshiba to me, because at the time they were making the most bang-for-your-buck laptops in terms of hardware and build specs and so on. Maybe they still are. I nearly went out and bought one online but thought I better first go see what a Toshiba laptop looks/feels like before dropping a grand on one.

All I remember is going to play with one in a shop and being repulsed by the keyboard. It felt like I was playing with a cheap fisher price toy with the entire board flexing every time I pressed a key. I tried a few other Toshiba laptops and they all seemed to be designed the same way. I just couldn't get my head around it.

So that's what I tell people when they ask me "[pinky], you're a computer guy, what laptop should I get?" Get the one that's nice to type on.

Quite often the piece of clothing that's the best conversation starter or that generates a comment is not something that necessarily looks good on you. Often it's just something flashy and garish and people treat it like a novelty party gimmick.

Lately I've been wearing more thrift clothes and they get more comments than the regular well-dressed stuff you find because they're sort of from a different era and not necessarily trendy.

I don't understand the whole "it's coming home"

The world cup is still in russia

"it's coming home" in a sporting context generally means games 6/7 are "coming home" to the home-team's turf, i.e. in the world series, when the home team is down 3-1 and wins game 5 on the road, we say "it's coming home!" because the next games in the series are coming home.

Football (as we know it today) was invented in England.

Baddiel and Skinner had a runaway hit song called "Three Lions (It's coming home)" which is still the go-to anthem for England matches. The theme is that the world cup trophy is coming back to where it belongs after so many decades of heartbreak and missed chances. If you were alive in the late 90s to early 2000s you could not get away from this song.

That's all it is. Essentially it's a meme you weren't in on.

My 30 second armchair quarterback hot-take here is that Samsung did so well by providing superior hardware at crazily cheaper prices even if the OS/UX was slightly less seamless.

Now they're providing slightly superior hardware at more or less the same price and the OS/UX is maybe slightly more stable but still dodgy. I'm not too surprised now tbh. Can't be pushing that shit at $900.

The rest of your points are fair but generally in soccer (and rugby) they do this to keep the flow of the game going basically. For example, if Messi has the ball and someone fouls him but he carries on or another player on his team carries on, the ref might not call the foul to allow them to continue the advantage. It's to stop an intentional foul disrupting an obvious winning chance from eventuating. This can also be abused.

I don't dislike it per se, but I just like sports where scores are made frequently or somewhat frequently. It's not as exciting to see teams going back and forth for hours before a score is made.

Which is totally fair and seems to be the main complaint I hear about soccer, although that's also the same reason why soccer fans love soccer. Those goals are that much sweeter when they're not happening every 3 minutes. Guess it just comes down to what you get out of sport.

I dislike soccer because of the culture around it. I think it's a beautiful game but it's ruined by thugs, manbabies and the lowest class of people acting like total fucking sleazebags.
