Baby Boomers
Gen X
Gen Y
Gen Z

"Millennials" is just some garbage boomers arbitrarily came up with. It doesn't even make sense. If you think it does, explain.

Honestly it makes no sense. Millennials should only describe like 25 and under.

Yeah, it tries to lump in kids born in the 80s, which they shouldn't. Anyone born after 2000 is a real millennial.

How does it describe anyone other than possibly people born after 2000? Boomers, Gen X, and Gen Y were all around for Y2K. So why do boomers call Gen Y "millennials"?

This topic is especially weird because if you look up "millennials" the first thing you see is "also known as Generation Y"

What makes us "millennials"? Existing during Y2K just like the previous two generations?

Millennials are people who were still kids during the new millenium. Meaning people born from around '82 to '99.

As best I can make out, "millennial" is a term largely used to dismiss certain kinds of people as defective by birthright. It works in the same way as "snowflakes" and "soyboy". Just a dog whistle for one group of people to look down on another people without having to examine anything.

The real generational gap is really honestly going to be those who grew up with cell phones, tablets, high speed internet and those that did not, as it has completely changed the culture and avenues of communication in early childhood and adolescence. IMO the generation born late 90s and early 00s is astronomically different than the generation of 80s and early 90s

I mean, dial-up internet and computers were a really big difference between us and the generation before us. That also completely changed the culture.

True, though i would still lump the era of dial up and the single home computer with the previous generation (probably at the very very end) just because the accessibility was really never there (though thats mostly anecdotal, my family was poor AF growing up).

My library offered free home internet back in the day, 28.8kbps dialup. It was the only reason I had at home access to dialup.

At least here on CE, boomers is as much the same way. There's just more people in the milennial age bracket bitching about boomers, than there is boomers bitching about milennials. As old as I am I'm not even a boomer. It's just both generations just bitching and whining about each other.

I think millennials hate is ridiculous. Yet, I don't feel like I can relate to what a "millennial" is and I was only born in 1990. We got dial up in the late 90s but the internet was a whole different thing back then and I rarely got on it. . I feel it's weird to use the internet in that way to qualify people as millennials.

One of them has it easier, though.
And both will say that. It is literally just bitching. Every generation has some things easier and some things harder. And older generations tend to minimize the new generation as they start distancing themselves from newer things.

New generations tend to play down on anything older generations did to help society a long and tend to focus on the things they did wrong. This isn't even really a generational thing, as it is a human thing.

I mean..claiming that an older generation "had it easier" is just admitting that things were better back then.

My point was every older generation claims it was harder for them and the younger generation claims they had it easier than the younger generation does now. It's really just people trying to validate their lives by claiming others have it easier and they had it harder. Milennials as old folks will do it to the younger generation. It's been going on for centuries because it's human behavior not something mutually exclusive to a specific generation of humans.
